So my legs and other areas are bit up with redbugs (or chiggers or whatever you filthy yanks call them).

What is the best method for ridding myself of these little bastards?

And FWIW, I've discovered the best way to scratch all of them in unison is to rub up against my desk. So I've spent most of my day humping my desk.

Put clear fingernail polish over them. It suffocates them and they die, or they're suppose to at least

Oh, but don't try that on your juevos, they will stick to your leg and they're a bi@#* to get off

Whats the difference between Chiggers and No See Ums? I got nailed pretty bad in Canada last June and No See Ums were supposedly the culprits. All I did was scratch the welts. Oh, and I leave on the 10th for a week of fishing again in Canada. Sure hope it doesn't happen again.

To stop the itch use some jockitch cream or some feminine anti-itch cream. Those are the two best things ever made for stopping chigger itch.

Possibly an anti-histamine or some hydrocortisone cream as well.

Whatever you use, make sure it has some sort of flowery smell so people will think you're gay rather than suffering from some loathsome disease, assuming you would rather be thought of as gay rather than afflicted with some loathsome disease. I'd like to be there after you leave the store with that feminine anti-itch cream. I would recommend a feminine anti-itch cream, but I have no experience with something like that.

You're not gay are you? If you are, no offense intended. Some of my best friends are fairly strange. No gays though.

If it seems as though I'm not taking this seriously, I read this to my husband, who grew up in the South. He takes great delight in all of the miserable aspects of living there that Southerners hardly ever talk about, like poisonous snakes, chiggers, ticks, scorpions, Walmart shoppers, and summers resembling the climate of H***.

Edited to add: We Yanks don't call them anything. We don't have them.

Todd, there are no chiggers up here in Canada.

Hate to tell you, but the No See Ums are the worst I have seen in my 9 years up here.

Good luck on your trip! Where you heading?

We had those things all over our legs when I was in the service. We would pretty much scratch them open and use a mild solution of bleach and water to wipe down with afterwards.

    Thanks Dan,

we are flying out of Ear Falls to Lake Irwin.....and have it all to ourselves along with 6 portage lakes. Its our first time to this lake and it should be interesting.

Any advice on the No See Ums. They really tore us up at a different lake in 2009. It was our first problem with them.

Ear Falls is about 2.5-3 hours from my place here. You will no doubt have a blast!

No real advice except for bug spray when you're out and about......I would recommend Ultrathon by 3M. Best stuff I have used. When we're sitting around outside we usually run a Thermacell and that gets rid of them pretty quick.

fats beat me to it, but they don't actually stay in/on you... so there is no way to kill them. Prevention is the best treatment. :D Fingernail polish keeps the itch away, but that's about it.

Benadryl Gel is the stuff you want! It works wonders on them suckers, Nail Polish never did much for me, except be a pain in the butt. Best thing to do is scratch at a bare minimum and coat yourself with Gel repeatedly, Id have taken a bath in it if I would have had enough with my worst outbreak.

No See Ums are gnats, completely different from red bugs, and Id take a no see um over red bugs any day, their bites aren't nearly as itchy or long lasting.

I am running out of youth. In a little more than a month, I will no longer be a teenager. And I only have two children. I should have started earlier. :D

Hooker has not reported back. I hope the chiggers didn't eat him.

I also hope all those Southerners don't move north when they hear we don't have chiggers here, and poisonous snakes, scorpions, etc. We do have Walmart shoppers, but they tend to stay in their own part of town unless they're feeding at an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet.

We used to take Miriam to one so she could sample a lot of different kinds of food. I would see these incredibly oversize people with huge plates of food. I wanted to go up to them and say, "Put that back! You're ruining your health!"

They charge for chldren based on age at those places. Since I eat so little, we would tell them I was ten-years old. They would assume Miriam was my little sister. I feel a little guilty about that, but paying full price would have been a real rip-off for me.

I'm trying to think of something to do on my last day as a teenager.

If my daughters are like their grandma and me, I will be a grandma in my early thirties, just like my mom. Remember my mom was only 15 when I was born. I wonder if this is some sort of hereditary thing.

My doctor is very unhappy though. He wants me to stop. He's going to talk to my husband about it. If he agrees, I'll have to stop.
