Had a 2yr old buck and a doe run in front of me last night. We're gonna be back up in the mid to upper 70s this week and next which I wasn't too excited to see Sent from my Z831 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
It's cold, its November, what little wind there is is directly in my face It's going to be a good morning
Got skunked this morning but did a quick camera change and happy to say my food plot on my home 15 acres is finally showing action two good to and comers
Very productive night. 6 does under foot countless across the field at other stand and at the end of the night a buck I call funky nuts was pushing a few does. I had him at 30 yards in a lane... Right situation wrong buck. But key is they never knew I was there. And I picked up another two doe tags for my farm so I'll hopefully be able to help Creepy get on the board next week!
Not sure if I should believe you...I was always told until the deer is on the ground you ain't got $hit
Hey guys! It looks like everyone is right in the mix of everything this season, lets kill some more! Well I have some pretty crappy news, but plenty of time to try and redeem myself this season. I got out of work early October 24th and headed back to the stand we call the snake stand which overlooks a skinny clover plot bumped against the cut beans. It was 20 mph winds that day with 35 mph gusts but it was the first big cold front and wind out of the north in awhile. I almost climbed down to sit in a blind because I thought my bow was going to swing off the hanger. I turn and look behind me and I have a 140" buck standing almost right below me. I cant shoot behind me so I didn't even grab my bow. He was downwind and knew something was wrong but my scent was basically blowing right over him. He finally turned and was doing the ole high step walk and I realized I could probably squeeze a shot off in there. I ranged him at 12 yards when he was quartering away and hit right behind the front shoulder. It looked like my arrow hit the backside shoulder and came out of him after he ran about 50 yards. I immediately thought heart shot, definitely one lung, but either way I was confident he was dead. I backed out and we gave him 3 hours. Four of us followed him through some nasty timber where a tornado had gone though in the past so he did a ton of spins and back tracks on us. Still we had good blood, looked like lung for sure but was only bleeding out that one side. Eventually we went 700 yards and we got to the neighbors property. We got their permission and they even helped track. The strangest thing happened then when we tracked him out of the woods, through the wide open beans in broad daylight and right towards the farmers house. He got to the cow pen electric fence where there was a pool of blood like he stood there deciding to hop it or not. He never did because there wasn't a drop anywhere on the other side. That's where we lost blood completely and eventually called it for the night. The next day I took off work and couldn't find any more blood and just grid searched all day. Everything is standing water and muck swamp bottoms, but still no sign. I searched all the timber and fields with my drone, and still nothing. After 3 days I eventually had to call it, due to being on the neighbors property I can't look forever, they are hunters as well and I have been all over their property for 3 straight days. I sat the following Saturday and did see 2 bald eagles come from that vicinity, I know that buck is dead, I just haven't the slights clue where he is, the whole thing makes me sick to my stomach.
Following that tough pill to swallow I got back in the tree and saw deer this past weekend but it seemed like only small bucks were on their feet and it was still early. I worked half a day on Halloween and climbed up in our "pinch point" stand which is an awesome funnel. I had two does cross in front of me at 60 yards and a slob of a buck come out of the cedars grunting the whole way in. He chased those does around all night around me but never got withing 50 yards. I was drawn twice but those does just weren't cooperating. Eventually he ran under my tree right when I was about to climb down and I could barely even make him out much less shoot. That was an awesome hunt and I am excited to get back in the tree. I took off the 6th and 7th which look really good weather wise, especially after the absolute crap weather they are calling for this weekend. Hopefully in the next week I can get on a good buck. Good luck everyone!
They definitely are on the move a whole lot more. I know the bucks pretty well on the farm and these are all pictures View attachment 79705 of bucks I have never seen before in the past week or so. Some really good looking 3 year old's in there.
Usmc, I feel for you. Sounds like you got all the right stuff to make it happpen. Nice to see some new bucks showing up as well, good luck!
Its a damp foggy drizzly mornin Super early before light i could hear a buck raking some branches Haven't seen anything yet, but this feels like a morning that something goes down
Finally have a day off and a freakin heat wave rolls back in. My luck is for crap. Hopefully it turns next week. November 10th is a good day to shoot a deer. All the squirrels must die...
