Looks like Boston is up to their old tricks. They can't make the playoffs or win a Championship with their own nucleous of players. What do they do? Go out and buy their way to a Championship. That's what money will do for ya. First they land Adrian Gonzalez and now I wak up to see Carl Crawford will be a Red Sox to the tune of 140 mil over 7 years. What a joke. I hope they don't actually feel proud if they happen to win it all.
Hey NY ... you will NEVER guess where they learned that from ...... Listen, I am a hardcore Yankees fan ..... but that is EXACTLY what we do ... and I am OK with it :D
It rings hollow, when you're standing behind a goat....pants down in a bundle at your ankles.....handful of fur in each hand.....to be saying.... ....."Hey look...the other guy's boinkin' a goat"!
Preacher beat me to it. The Yanks are notorious for buying championship teams. I love how both NY and Boston both have so much more money than the Rays, but they have been able to keep pace with them in recent years. I would like to see a cap on baseball again, just so things like this dont happen.
Winter meetings 2008= Yankees signed Sabathia, Burnett, and Texeria. October 2009= Yankees win World Series. But those damn Red Sox are trying to buy a World Series!!
There's still hope for the Yankees to keep the evil empire claim. Looks like they are offering 140-150 mil for 6 years to Lee. That would close the gap on the sox.
By the way these numbers are just absurd in general. Sitting there shaking my head at what I just typed. Is there no end? Ever?
I'm assuming your original post was to stir the pot, considering your location:D Mr. $140mil In all seriousness, I'm a Red Sox fan, and regardless of the team, this spending is ridiculous.
Yes a little sarcastic in the original post. Yanks are the king of buying teams obviously. I have no problem with the concept eithere. Red Sox or Yankees or.... whoever wants to. If you got it, want to spend it, and it's within the rules of MLB then go for it. Matter of fact I would like the owner of a team I like to do that rather than pocket it. I just heard the Yankees just extended the offer to a 7th year for Lee. Sheesh they want this guy pretty dang bad.
Do you blame them? I agree with your comment on the spending from a business standpoint, but I have a hard time swallowing what professional athletes get paid in general in relation to what they bring to the table to society in general, but that's a whole 'nother topic for a 10 page thread:D
I agree as far as what they make. It's really out there these days. Just when you think the market couldn't possibly hit a higher ceiling look what's happened this week. Think about this ... 3 players alone (Crawford, Werth, and soon Lee) are going to sign contacts that add up to around 1/2 a BILLION DOLLARS!!............. 3 players!
The fact that some guys are making $50,000 A DAY is mind boggling to me. NOT saying it's not right, or they are not financially worth it. Just incredible to me!
The thing I can't believe is that the Yanks signed Jeter for 17 million a year! that is outrageous for the more overrated player in the game IMO. They could've saved 10 extra million (nickel and diming it now) on him and offered that to Lee. the face that pro athletes make more than the President is crazy.
I don't really care what the players make. They should get as much as they can when they can. For a long, long time the owners didn't pay them squat and, when their skills diminished, threw them out like old trash. The thing is, the owners are still pocketing boatloads of cash because they pass the cost of these salaries onto whatever fans ares stupid enough to give them money. Think about it. They know the fans will pay outlandish costs for jerseys and anything with the team name on it so they charge outlandish prices and all the fan is really doing is paying to advertise the owner's team. The fan is paying the owner for the privilege to advertise the owner's team. Greatest racket on earth but hey, it's "your" team LOL .
If you got it spend it. And yes I hate the Yankees and Red Sox both. But for the low market teams to just pocket the money sent to them through the luxury tax, isn't going to help the problem at all.
