I'm not sure if this question has been asked, but my buddy is on a budget and really wants to get into archery. He is looking at the Samick Sage recurve. I've only shot compounds so I wasn't sure what to tell him. Would this be a good choice for him? Thanks

The Samick line of bows are good. However I have read about risers splitting and limb bolts and pockets not aligning right.
I am a fan of older production bows; Bears, Wings, Howatt, Shakespeare, Pearson, etc
A longer bow is easier to learn with than a shorter bow, 58-64". Shorter bow tend to be more "twitchy" unforgiving

    IMPORTANT RULES FOR STARTING OUT:
    1) don't over bow yourself 35-45 lbs maximum
    2) figure out if you want to shoot off the shelf or use an elevated rest
    3) form, Form, FORM
    4) proper arrow weight and spine and tip combination.
    5) form, Form, FORM
    6) start close, 10 yards or less until you're consistent.
    7) both eyes open, don't look at the arrow look at the smallest spot you want to hit
    8) bow arm, arrow and draw arm elbow should all be in a perfect line
    9) don't drop your bow arm until the arrow hits the target
    10) draw, anchor, hold, release.
    11) DON'T PUT FAST FLIGHT STRING ON A BOW THAT'S RATED FOR IT!!!!!
    12) you can ONLY shoot feathers off a shelf, no vanes.
    Did I mention...FORM?
