Nope, it has to be free range.

I'm sure the B&C are looking into that possibility. Maybe doing DNA or something like that. They don't just certify any animal of this size without checking things out first.

So how does Minnesota like having some elk back?!

How are the wolves doing up there?

The crowning on his tops suggests red deer DNA in this bull. I'm sure the folks who record elk see this also. Hope it all works out for the elk's new owner. He certainly put is time in and did the right thing. It would be nice to see a happy end for both the elk and the owner.

The elk are in far NW MN. Some counties are trying to eliminate the elk heard. Something from the farmers over there. Elk destroying crops.

I think it's cool having elk, but I'd rather see woodland caribou re-introduced.

I still might put in for an elk tag.

    Here's a link to MN DNR's elk page: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/hunting/elk/index.html

The history & management pdf link at the bottom is an interesting read.

Wolves? Healthy as ever! But I'm mostly in favor of Canis lupis :tu: I like hunting deer that are also hunted by wolves.

And I'm not talking about those low wolf densities that you WI & MI boys whine about either:poke:

To get an idea of the numbers of elk in MN:

11 tags were issued in 2010.
    8 elk were harvested.

    Hi People
I might be missing something here but why would you want to claim a record for an animal that you found dying and stuck in the mud. To me it is a sad end to a beautiful creature. At best it is an interesting conversation piece.

The record goes to the animal.

The man isn't claiming anything, other than he happened to find possibly one of the biggest racks. The animal passed, so the opportunity is there to get it measured.

It is a sad end for sure.

That animal should be in the books. Its about showing how amazing these animals are. It shouldnt matter if it was shot or not.
