I'm really considering getting into treestands. There's a large part of me just to get a really simple, cheap hang-on stand because most of the land I hunt is best hunted from the ground anyways. But, I've picked out a few spots that a treestand would really be killer.

Is there a decent climbing treestand out there that isn't gonna cost me more than $150? Lightweight is less of an issue, but I really don't want one that is loud or painfully slow. I know if it takes me forever to get up a tree in a climber I won't even use it. That being said, I really would like the versatility of being able to use the same stand for a couple trees.

So, should I just get a cheap hang-on and put it at one of the hot spots, or is there a decent climber out there that won't break the bank?

PS, I really don't want this to set off a treestand-merit war between the hang-on and climber guys. If that topic is too sensitive I'd be happy just to hear about reasonably-priced climbing stand options :tu:

I use both types of stands but seems like if you dont want to fork out the money for a good climber you can always get a pretty nice comfy lockon for under 150.

Good Climber for around 150. Check out Ameristep Grizzly, they are a little heavy, but it is comfy and solid.

Wow I'm really impressed at the prices I'm seeing for those Ameristep Grizzly climbers. I've been looking around and I'm so tempted to buy a Summit Viper. I just feel like I wouldn't use one enough to make it worth it

Check craigslist for a viper, I've found some on there for a decent price.

^Yeah actually I've been looking around at some used climbers, and I think I might be able to get a very reasonable deal

'meristeps are good solid climbers, little heavy but solid, comfortable, and reasonably priced.
my Summit Raptor lock on is my favorite stand ever, 13lbs and like sitting in a recliner. $130 on amazon.

If you were closer I'd give you mine. Too small for me.
