My inspiration for this post is a bit odd;watching the movie Young Guns II for the umpteenth time the other night got me thinking. Do you guys believe Brushy Bill Roberts truly was Billy the Kid? Digital Photo analysis, gang member testimonials, and even the scars on his body all backed the argument that he truly was. Then again, there are certain circumstances (Roberts not being bilingual which Billy was for instance) that show otherwise. I love western history, and this story is certainly intriguing, and while I'm not a conspiracy theorist, there just seems to be so many inconsistencies behind the circumstances in which Billy the Kid was supposedly killed. If you have no idea what I'm talking back, he's a quick (albeit not 100% accurate) rundown. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ollie_P._Roberts And while we're at it, one of my favorite credits/ending to a movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kwj-dhFpqJI
I liked the young gun's movies, and i guess he could of faked his death... I like his story he told. Hell tom hanks shook jfk hand in forest gump right? Frank and Jesse James rode in my town where i live, mark train cave to meramac caverns here in mo i have seen the actual pit in the cave where try put there loot. frank was the doorman/bouncer and the troy opera house once in my home town of troy mo. i love history. My home sit's on a civil war area farm where you can't hardly dig a hole in the ground without finding a few arrow heads, found a few civil war buttons with a medal detector at some long ago rotted log cabins across the field from my house.also i have a civil war era cemetery in my yard graves are from 1850-1870 from the family that logged all of the ground and owned the local mill for wood and grain on my ground. grave yard is a little spooky but they are quite neighbors.
Meramac is awesome, I love the little stream going through it the reflects the ceiling and makes it look deep. I always had interest in the James Gang and the Kidd. Jesse and the Kidd both have mystery surrounding their deaths and were both taken with cheap shots so to speak. You ever hit the woods and look for the money trees with the carved markings?
markings.. please tell me about this one.... I see a lot of trees that were bent over pointing to a stream or river.
For a couple of years I worked with a guy who's Grandma was related to Cole Younger. His family often told tales of the Younger's and the James that were passed on by Cole. There was a story he told me about the Knights of the Golden Circle back around 1992 while we were drinking some beers. What he said was the group was a secret society wanting to overthrow the government and they hid lots of loot in the Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and lower Illinois. There were Indians that used trees to mark their trail and they created signs carved into trees that would emulate the Indian markings but be different. There was a story on TV within the last few years about the "Treasure Trees" but I can't find anything in Google. I did find this with a picture of a tree marking, many old timers in the Missouri and Arkansas area know of them. http://www.freemasonrywatch.org/rebeltreasure.nationaltreasure2.html
