I own a Chronograph so there are a lot of guys I know that wanna come over and check their bows speed.

I have probably never seen more dissapointment or the suggestion that it must be screwed up then when doing this.

I have never yet in about 50 various bows seen one break 300fps. Now, mind you most of these guys are really serious archers and shooting elk as a primary big game animal. All fall on the side of heavy arrows for maximum penetration.

On average the guys with all sorts of the high end stuff from Hoyt and Mathews are in the 285-295 range for speed with 70+ Lbs of draw weight. There is a fella drawing 31" but he shoots 58 lbs. If he were shooting 70lbs he would probably be 325fps!

When you get to 450 plus grains of arrow weight, it becomes tough to achieve 300 plus FPS with under 30" of draw length fromwhat I have seen.

Of this group of guys most shot big mule deer, and elk, I shot two bears 465lbs and 507 lbs. We all get pass through shots more often then not. So it's not the speed that is so critical, it's the arrow weight IMO. None of us are long range shooters. We are all Bow hunters. Long shots for any of us would be 40-50 yards. I shot both the bears under 20 yards which is far more typical for us here. Lance shot his huge bull elk at 30, it ran about 20 yards and stopped coughing up blood, it was at about 50 yards when he stuck it again. Both Arrows went through it. He shoots 70lbs, 29" draw, and gets 275fps with his arrows. With the brand new Z7 bow.

I also own a chrono, hell, a full blown pro shop for that matter but here's the bows I still have in possession,

    All draw lengths are 28.5"

Easton XX78 2413's weigh in at 465 grains, travel 280 fps out of my 82nd Airborne set at 62lbs.

Easton ACC's 3-49's weigh in at 381 grains, travels 317 (may be more if memory serves me) fps out of my BowTech Destroyer 350 at 62 lbs.

My Destroyer 340 is set up for 3D so I never chrono'd it or I just don't remember doing so. LOL.

I don't have my Invasion nor my Dead Eye set up. :alien:

I'll get a chrono speed of my 07 Hoyt Vectrix vs a 12 Mathews HeliM next weekend when I am in town shooting the Mathews to see if I like it or not. Both set at 70# 29" and slinging around 495 grain arrows. I expect mid 200s from both. I prefer how much more quiet my bow is with heavier arrows than the speed I had before with lighter arrows.
