Talking pictures..... Every fall I get a pile of emails with pics of kills and other whacky stories that are too good to be true. Some even seem to get recycled every year. So, this is one I have not seen yet. I have my ideas.....but what say you? Here is the text that came with the email...
I agree with Ben, fake. Not only to I agree with Ben's observation but you can also often find wierd additional facts in fake stories. In this story for example the author claims not to have seen the cat in the picture until the next morning. I don't know about anyone else, but if I were alone and taking a picture using a camera timer of my trohpy, I would look at the picture right away while in the field to make sure it turned out and see if I need to take another picture. I wouldn't wait and look at the picture in the "morning" as this story claims. I'm of course making the wild leap that this guys is NOT still using a film camera.
Seen on the internet = real. You cannot convince me otherwise. Besides, thats my brother's cousin's uncle in the pic. RIP Uncle Billy.
Could only find one other mention of this photo from a few days ago, looks to be a fairly new one going around. It doesn't look right, but nothing really sticks out as blatant photoshop either, people and software are getting so good anymore there's always a grain of salt included. http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=66010
The pixels around the cat seem very consistent, and don't appear to have been blended in. But I guess if people have too much time on their hands they can create anything. The only thing that makes me wonder, is if you look under the Elk's left antler you see a slight shadow from the flash. The stick across the cats ear, didnt cast a shadow either way. Edit: I didnt even notice what Ben said about the hill side. Very good catch.
That guy better watch out, the cougar is fixing to use it's laser beam vision to burn holes through him! Yikes.
Is it me or does it look like they took a picture of the Pink Panther, colored him gold and photoshopped him in?
I got this one the other day too and my first thought was do you really think the cat would just be standing there chillin like that? I would think he would either be in a pounce pose or 180 and haulin!
Fake, but just the thought gives me the chills. I know there are cats in the area I hunt elk, but I have never SEEN one...and that scares me a little. Seen the sign, but those cats are sneaky.
I don't know whats funnier. The photoshopped cat or him extending his arm straight and getting his legs as far away from the elk as possible.
Good observations, agree that it is totally fake. Agree that you would look at your camera right away to make sure that you got the shot and the elk is on a down slope and the cats legs don't appear consistant for a downhill slope.
I don't think it's out of the ordinary for creatures to make their way, unbeknownst, into a photo... especially any sort of predator. I mean look more closely at your elk photo Dan... :D
Totally real, everyone knows that big cats float on grass and would never have a depression in the grass where they are standing.
