I'm reading this book and trying to look at a map and figure out what is what. Can one of you map experts show me what a saddle, bench and rest of the stuff look like on this map. http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=43.38939...800,-75.57892,717 carmel road windsor newyork
Example of saddles: N 43.39214 W 73.84611 and N 43.39650 W 73.84229 Example of a shelf--shelves are where ridges fall off to the sides. As the land gradually or sometimes dramatically falls, there are sometimes places on those slopes where the land kind of levels out for a bit before it resumes sloping downward, thereby providing a shelf for the deer to walk on. N 43.38833 W 73.83044 Pretty cool spot where deer traffic might funnel--flip over to the satellite image to view it. Strip of land between big water on both sides. N 43.32159 W 73.84104 Same here: N 43.36909 W 73.79032
Use the satellite view---example of an inside breakline where two different types of cover meet. The inside breakline would be where two different types of cover meet, but you set up on the thicker cover. N 43.38820 W 73.87322 Pretty neat spot where two field edge corners are in close proximity to one another and also the only strip of cover running east/west for nearly 600 yards. N 43.37958 W 73.86987 Double Lung I am far from being a topo map expert...I just stayed in a Holiday Inn last night! Hope I could help you a bit.
thanks for the help virginia shadow it's easier when someone shows you than when you try to learn from the book
Your welcome DL--there will be some guys that will be on here tomorrow that will give you some great advice.
You have some nice saddles on that map! The only problem is that you have to climb 1000 feet to get to them.
