So I actually had a deer snort-wheeze back at me last night was exciting. I had rattled 2 times and grunted maybe 10 times over the course of 4 hours. I was in super thick brush (big Holley patch) so I never saw him he was about 45 yards. But I have been thinking about something I read and experience. Here in VA for the most part everyday is either sex day (normally there are doe days and stretches). Its clear we have lots of does and I have heard if we don thin some we are headed for "Earn a buck". I also read that when you have a high doe to buck ratio rattling, grunting, etc... becomes a lot less effective. This holds true for what I have seen with the hunters I know killing monsters without any calling - and some guys I know are calling aren't doing better and in some cases worse. Any thoughts? Wondering if I just go back to patterning for food sources like I do in October and leave my calls at home.
