This post should probably be in the Equipment Review area but I'd like to buy a rangefinder tonight and figured that posting in here would get me the most reviews in the shortest time. Budget is $200. Will be using for bow and rifle hunting. I'm leaning towards the Leupold RX-600. Leupold makes good products, I don't think I need a rangefinder that goes out to 1000yds and I don't mind if it doesnt have the angle compensation as I've read on other posts here that being up in a tree doesn't affect shots inside 30yds too much. I was also considering the Nikon Archers Choice (it's $260 but has a $60 rebate). Not sure if this rangefinder would be better than the Leupold but it seems like it would do the job well. If anyone has some feedback on these, or suggestions on another rangefinder that I haven't looked into, it would be much appreciated! Thanks for the help.
I'm not much of an expert when it comes to optics but I have a Simmons RF600 that I bought for 129.00 with a $20 rebate. I think its perfect. Its very simple but very reliable and accurate and easy to use. It has a 600 yard range on a reflective target and a 400 yard range on a deer. I don't know anything about the ones you are looking into but I figured I'd put a good word out for the Simmons.
I have the archers choice and love it. However if you are going to use it rifle hunting as well, the archers choice has a 100 yard limit. Not sure if your hunting situation would allow for rifle shots over 100 yards, but that is something you'll want to consider.
GA is correct, Nikon Archer's Choice is an awesome Rangefinder. But since you want something dual purpose I don't think it'll be right for you, even though there is a huge promotion going on for the Archer's Choice and Archer's Choice Max right now. Nikon's ProStaff 550 might fit your needs and it is waterproof/fogproof. Check it out and let me know what you think. Drop me a note if you have any questions about it. GA, Thanks again for the kind words, receiving praise from those who use our products is the ultimate compliment.
checkout the Nikon Riflehunter 550. This is the best rangefinder i have owned. it comes with the ID (incline/decline compensation). i picked mine up for $240 on newegg.com. I think they only have the riflehunter 1000 on there now, but if you invest a little more money you wont regret it. If you narrowed it down to the two you stated and you are only looking at those, i would go with Nikon. They dont need a reflective surface to bounce back the yardage. In my person opinion Nikon is the front runner of the rangefinder group.
i have the Leupold RX 600 and i love it. I have not had the lens fog and I also use it for both rifle and bow hunting and it works great
So Tyrone and Johnsom were night fishing.... Tyrone and Johnson were night fishin off the bridge and drinkin a beer.... Johnson finally said you bro I got to relieve myself and walked over to the other side of the bridge and pulled it out....Tyrone said me to and pulled his out as well...after a minite of silence Tyrone said...damn that water sho is cold..... Johnson said...and deep to. SB rangefinder
Thanks everyone for the input. I think I'll extend my research for another day and look at the Nikon ProStaff and Riflehunter a little closer. With the Leupold, does it only register on reflective targets up to 600yds?
+1 Mine has been great. Easy to use, great battery life (haven't changed them in two years and it still says full).
