Hey all, my sons has showed some interest in a range finder. This will be used for gun hunting as well as bowhunting, I was just wondering whats a decent one thats not going to break the bank...Thanks!

I have a Leupold IV that has a ballistic setting in it. I've owned it for several yrs. Very happy with it. cost about $300. It has 3 bow settings and several gun settings. It also has the ARC feature which compensates for angles. Do your self a favor and get one with a back light so you can laser trees etc before shooting light. That's the only thing I wish I bought that model with the backlight.

I like my Vortex Ranger 1000 but I dont know your budget. Its a higher end rangefinder from a great company. You get what you pay for. I have had issues with the cheaper Bushnell ones along with the Wildgame In.

Nikon Prostaff 550 is a great one for both Joe. I have it and it does long range but still have a good enough eyepiece to do short range for bowhunting. Completely waterproof. Very reliable.

Nikon Riflehunter 550, great for bow or gun. Got mine refurbished from Natchez SS for about $125.

I have a bushnell 850 with arc feature. I like it for the money. Only 175. The nikon was ok but the battery door sucked.

The only problem I have with Nikon is the customer service, it sucks IMO. Never really dealt with Bushnell's CS....

    Joe

I try and buy everything Nikon if I can just because I feel their optics are very good especially for the price. I have binos, rangefinder, three of their scopes and countless other stuff I've bought and sold if nikons.

It's funny because I have never needed their CS even with all the stuff I own of theirs. Everything I've owned has always worked perfectly. My range finder is going on year 6. But that is just my humble opinion.

All of my optics are Nikon and I couldn't be happier with the products.

Hey, I was just starting with compound bow hunting and just shooting around at stuff and after a while realized I would need a range finder but I didn't have a much money to spend, so I got a bushnell yardage pro sport for $150 new off ebey it worked great and I still use it, so that's what I recommend, but that's my opinion. Hope you have fun shooting.
