and ran right into a "wall". I'm not sure if I just didn't give myself enough time to recover from the 7 miles I did on Friday or whether I'm not well, but I started with the intention of shooting for 3 miles at an 8 minute mile pace. That's an ambitious pace for me at this point, but I expected better than to crash within the first half mile. I slowed down to about a 10 minute mile pace and regained control without having to stop, but I only made it 2 miles before I gave up. I haven't struggled that much since I first started. Maybe I just tried too soon after a long run and I wasn't ready. It probably wasn't very intelligent to try to run an 8 minute mile pace like I used to do when I was young this soon after pushing myself so far on the last run. I wrapped my problem ankle and it held up fine during the run and it's fine now. I just had no endurance. It was all I could do to make it to the 2 mile point. I had a 45 minute long coughing fit after the run and I was getting something up out of my lungs. Maybe I've got some kind of cold or something along those lines. One thing I do know is that it's pretty demoralizing after such a good run on Friday.
It takes time to build a good run time. Depending on your age you will take much longer to build endurance and strengthen your tendons and muscles. Seems you pushed too hard doing your 7 mile run and your body is still recovering. With a good running program you can increase greatly over 3-4 months to where you can run daily and feel good.
Did ya eat crap food or sugary drinks? That slows me down a crap ton. I also worked out my legs the other then tried to run 2 days later. I ended up doing 4 to 5 but they were slow because I was so sore. We're you hydrated? Did you drink pickle juice, eat your banana and smoothies?
I started running again about a year ago and I started out doing a mile every day and worked my way up to a solid 5 mile run every morning except Sunday. Sundays are fast run days which I do 2 miles in 10-11min. My goaI is to get it in low 9's. Depending on how my previous day at work was my miles are low 7's to mid 8's in my 5 mile run.
Pickle juice? Really? I mean, I like pickle juice and I always have, but what is that going to do? I don't have any problems with cramps at all, but that may be because I make sure I taken in enough salts. I even have my S-Caps for longer runs. I've pretty much stopped eating "crap food" and sugary drinks. I've even almost totally removed beer from the equation. I've had 7 beers in the last week and a half. A little over a month ago 7 would have been an average night.
Yeah, I guess. My temperature this morning is a little over 100 and I feel pretty bad, so maybe that's the problem.
Yeah, I really should have added some kind of emoticon after that post. At least now I know what the problem was.
