I have been test shooting a few broad heads. For example I have shoot the trufire T1, Interloc, G5 t3, Grimreaper, Ramcat, Shuttle T and the Montec. Im going broke on broadheads and those are the ones I wanted to try. The Shuttle T and the Montec are some tough heads. The Ramcat and grimreaper heads shoot the best. To be honest I really am impressed with the ramcat. It was one of the sharpest along with the interloc. It took some abuse and did well on angle shots. Ramcat and the grimreaper did best on the water jug test. Im leaning towards the Grimreaper or Ramcat. I like the fact the ramcat is more of a fixed brodhead.

    Anyway thats what im finding.

I killed a few deer with the 100gr ramcat this past season, far and away the best fixed blade head I ever shot. Used the same head twice without having to do and thing but wash the blood off. The third time a single blade bent slightly, which I replaced.
My buddy and I both killed bulls the year before last with them, his was a perfect broad side pass though, and mine was quartering pretty hard away. I got amazing penetration on a shot I probably shouldn't have taken. Far and away the best fixed blade head I shot.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to ask if anybody had elk hunted with them. We bow hunt elk a bit. We shot the same Ramcat head 7-8 times into the target and I was still impressed on how sharp they were.

I shot 3 deer with the GrimReaper last year. Although a lot of guys swear buy them I was neither impressed with the penetration or wound channel. Although I made it through both sides on all three deer I only had 1 complete pass through. The buck I shot had both a very small entrance and exit hole. I swear the blades did not deploy as the exit hole was only about the size of a quarter. I can't say I have shot the Ramcats.

I will be switching heads this coming season. Most likely killzones, bloodrunners, or T3s.

i hunted the rage from a stand last year and they were great. they left huge entrance and exit wounds. i took them up into the bighorns for elk and i didnt get a shot but got close a few times. this is where i ran into a little problem with expandables - if i had an arrow nocked and needed to move a few yards and i bumped the rage on some brush or even through grass, the blades would deploy. dad shot a mulie while we were up there with a montec at 52 yards and it went al the way thru and hit a rock wall about 20 yards behind the deer so hard it curled the tip.(a little bit of filing took care of it) i like expandables from the stand but they get kinda fussy for spot and stalk. montec is a great broadhead for the high country. dont have any personal experience with the ramcat but its a real pain if you move around and look down at your broadhead and its partially or even fully deployed. so.....yet another variable to throw in the mix!:D

btw i havent really figured out if ramcats are fixed or expandable yet. hybrid i guess..... whatever that means......

Heckler, Thanks for the input. We never had a problem with the grimreaper deploying on the water jug. We did notice that the exit hole was bigger then the entrance hole. On the wafer board it expanded but you would expect that. The ramcat was a lot tougher then it looked.

jmorgan, I had a bad experience on a elk hunt with the rage 2 years ago. Only one blade deployed. We found him but he went a long ways. Your right with the blades. I probably need to take the ramcat and act like Im doing a stalk and see how the blades react. Thanks again for the input.

Since you have already gone to the expense :tu: which do you find more effective but user friendly fixed or expand on contact ? The shop I visit is trying to point me toward the Rage but I like simple and less moving parts.

The Ramcat and Grim Reaper shot like are field tips. If you find a good fixed BH that shoots well I think you would have less trouble with it. The Ramcat is sort of a hybrid BH. If I just hunted deer I would probably use a good expandable BH. With elk you need a tough BH.

I use both the Grim Reapers and the Ramcats. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.JMHO

I'm a Grim fan...even though I'm switching and going back to a fixed head this season. The Grim's blew a huge hole in the deer I did shoot with them.

I use 125 gr. Reapers. Leaves big wound channels and generally leaves big blood trails. Don't generally have to worry about tracking though. Deer usually drops within 25 - 40 yds.
