Just odered mine online of their site, great review and awesome footage of penatration. Should be interesting, I haven't used anything in 7 years other than Montecs. Interested in thier flight. Time for a change!!! Rocky
I'm gonna try them this year as well. I have been using Thunderheads, I tried mechanical's last year but wasn't impressed. I want to try something different.
Guys, I have been using the RamCat for the past two years. With broadheads I am always skeptical but after shooting them I became a fan. Here are a couple of the reasons. Flight: They fly great. I used them both from my compound and crossbow. I was using the Parker Tornado and getting some high speeds. Overtime they flew great. My compound is only pushing 250 fps but they fly great. My bow is perfectly tuned so any well built head should fly perfect. You guys know this is not always the case. Penetration: As seen in the video these get some killer penetration. Every year at the ATA Show they go head to head with a bunch of different heads and I have not seen them lose. I pulled the trigger on a done at 30 yds, blew through both shoulders and the arrow was on the stuck in the ground. (250 fps and 58 lb draw weight) Last yr I made a radical downward angle shot on a buck and it stuck in the ground below him. There were 3-4 other deer, all with similar results. Durable: These heads stay together. The very tip of the blade might bend slightly but that is expected with bone contact. Service: These guys stand behind the broadhead. They are good guys provide excellent customer service. Holes: I am not sure how they do this but the head blows a huge entry hole. It is twice the size of the blades and it still is bewildering to me. But results are results and my deer are falling within sight. Cannot argue. What don't I like? Quiver: I have a hard time with them in my quiver. They get stuck and required a larger housing. I am using the 3 arrow kiki quiver and need to get a different one this yr. Screws: In the older models the screws would back out and a blade would become loose. That was a minor issue. They have addressed it in the heads this yr by changing the screws. It is good to see that they saw a minor flaw and listened to us in the field then made a change. I hope this helps. I would like to see if others had similar results.
Three years for me, I love em. They fly super. I get mechanical type cutting diameter but with fixed blade reliability. I havent had any issue and the penetration has been second to none.
I used them for the first time this year. Me and my boys shot them thru a 5/8 wafer board at 20 and 30 yards straight on and at a angle. They did great. I used them on my elk hunt this year and was extremely pleased. I didn't get a pass thru. The entrance hole I hit a rib and the arrow hit the other side of the rib cage. It left a nice entrance hole. I think being double edged helped. I'm sure on a deer they would blow right thru. Like Trail153 said the quiver can be a issue. I will probably get a different one for next year. Here is a picture of the elk I shot.
Had my first experience with them yesterday and loved them! Complete pass through knocked her over she got my up ran 30 yds and did the death roll!! This is a pic of the exit hole I was surprised how large it was. Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
We have a store here that carries them. But if you go to smokebroadheads.com you could probably buy them thru them.
I got a complete passthru on this 225lb field dressed illinois buck last year. I bought them for my son who was shooting about 45 lbs and was so impressed with them had 1 in my quiver. My son killed his first archery buck with them last year too, no passthru but thats why i like the blade design! GREAT HEAD!!!
I like what they demonstrated in the video, however you have to take a couple things into consideration. I don't believe it was as accurate as the other two he shot each time being number one. Secondly, I feel that him shooting with a crossbow at such a close distance did not reallly depict what it could really do.
