Thanks to this tropical storm the weather forecast for the vacation I took from 11/2-11/12 is showing 50+% chances of rain every day and temps are looking like the high 50s to mid 60s and the lows aren't going to be much lower than the mid 40s. It won't stop me but what a piss in my Cheerios. I didn't wait all year for this BS.
I thought you were in the garage. But in all seriousness, who "likes" hunting in swirling winds in rainy weather with no temperature drops for 10 days straight. I'm at an off grid cabin and will likely have wet clothes every day. I'll have to consider hypothermia and other factors that you're little screw your girlfriend at home alone quip doesn't have anything to do with.
I think his point is the deer are still going to be breeding, you can choose to hunt or not but the rut will go on.
Of course, I didn't say I wasn't going to hunt. This probably should have gone into the rant thread lol. Kinda, I don't have to hunt, but combating hypothermia due to wet clothes isn't exactly just a first world problem. Doing it on purpose for the sake of hunting makes it one I guess.
Why will you get wet? Don't they sell quality rain gear out that way? I have duck hunted all day in the rain where we had to dump the water out of the gun barrel's every once in a while. Clothes stayed dry. Any I hunt for fun and hunting in the rain is not part of that equation.
Yes, but some things still get wet. I don't have full rain gear, just the jacket. I will likely have to go buy something, any recommendations?
If your budget will stand it go with any of the name brands. I had a 2 piece suit from Bass Pro that last me about 10 years before it finally wore out. Wasn't cheap but neither is buy a new one ever couple years. Got to be tough enough to stand walking through what ever to get to the stand.
I know plenty of people who would go and sit in that weather and be grateful for the time to do it and not complain about it....
It's funny, they have trouble predicting the weather for the next day, and you're worried about a prediction a week or two out? A good example... they said we would have heavy rain here in Pa by just after midnight last night and it's still dry as a bone as I type this. Simply put, our weather has become much more erratic, making it much more difficult to predict.
Couldn't agree more. Plus, maybe it does rain one day. With no big tempature drop, a rain event may be just what you need to get the deer on their feet. Just be there in the stand the second it stops. Think positive and be positive and hopefully good things will happen. Good luck.
Spear that post is a carbon copy of my thoughts. I'm on vacation for those dates too and while checking the long range forecast for western ny. its the same thing.....Rain for days. Ever notice that the weather people can't get tomorrow right unless they are predicting bad weather for your vacation. Then their dead on a year in advance. We had a similar situation a few years back. Day after day after day of pouring rain. Tree umbrellas, awesome raingear and determination. After 6 days of soaked gear, pouring rainwater out of our boots. Changing camo 2 times a day. Drying one set around the stove while soaking the other, AND not seeing many deer finally got to us and we left, defeated after 6 days of a twelve day vacation with no end to the rain in sight.
I wasn't posting this as a too serious thread, I was simply venting because with my luck this will be the one time that the meteorologist is dead on. I'm not too worried about it and I'm still going to hunt. Thanks for all the input and the info on the gear on sale, I will check it out.
To me it’s a potential challenge that you’re not facing with a positive attitude. You’re assuming the weather will be bad, assuming you’ll be wet and cold, and assuming weather will negatively affect deer behavior. You’ll adapt to any weather. The rut will happen. You’ll see deer. Assuming it’s a decent location and you’re a good hunter, your odds of success are high. Don’t let a forecast take away your positive attitude, which is one of your greatest assets.
