I tried the rage broadheads once with my compound bow. I could hardly get a 3 inch group at 20 yrds vs a 1.5 to 2 inch group with my g5 montecs. I threw them straight in the garbage and kept my fixed g5's.
The design itself of that BH is a serious flaw, there's no way that design and materials makeup is going to withstand the pressures it's sure to encounter. The rotation alone on that dimension and grade of hard steel is enough to make the blades fail on anything hard at all. That said, beef ribs are far from the normal type of thing an arrow or head is going to likely encounter though a bison or even a hog could pose a similar problem. The chisel tip of that design is fine but that's the extent of anything well done on that design. The surest design is good fixed blade made with good metal and not pot metal crap. It has to be able to flex and bend some or it'll just shatter. His setup probably had too much kinetic as opposed to not enough.
As long as you have enough KE. But, not too much KE. And don't hit a lot of pesky bone. But, other than that! Just like an AXE! made of aluminum foil.
To be honest I wouldn't buy or use the 3 blade rage. I loved the Rage titanium and have never had a problem. That being said I don't give two ****s what another hunter wants to put on their arrows, I don't need to agree with a clique or have anyones approval to choose what equipment I use, if it works for me I use it.
This is hilarious I have had amazing success with my Rage. Especially Rage Xtreme. Blaming broadheads is an excuse for being a poor shot. I'm 5/5 with rage on deer. 3/3 on coyotes. I have 4/5 pass throughs on those deer. Only one that wasn't was when I hit a doe on the shoulder. The rage went through the shoulder blade and left a perfect cut through the bone. you can see the cuts from the blade on the bone from left to right
Excellent point, why go out of your way to try to build a case against a product especially if you have not used the product yourself. Why invest the energy?
Who are the Patriots? Do they brake on impact, or struggle with penetration? Do they have a rabid following that defends their every fault?

my rage hypos this year broke entrance hole leg,cut the chest cavity open until it hit the sternum bone angled slightly higher and shattered the exit hole leg where it broke off. It was still in one piece with just one blade bent (im guessing from the sternum) and all that at 50 yards on a 6.5 year old buck... i was happy with the durability and effectiveness
Doesn't really change my mind or change what I'm gonna use. Anything mechanical can fail, but the great thing about the Internet is you can find test that make any product look like junk. In my own personal experience I've never had any of the problems so have no need to change.
I hear constant bad mouthing of rage broad heads. I've shot the Rage Hypodermics for 2 years and have had nothing but the best results. Complete pass throughs at 50 yards, through both shoulders. I shoot a heavy arrow and 72# draw. So labeling a broad head as 'junk' just because you didn't have good results is ludicrous.
I tried the 3 blade Rage when they came out, I had one open in mid flight (it sounded like a industrial fan) and flew right over the back of a nice elk. The second time was on a doe and I missed high. I never shot them again, I like a good solid fixed blade head. I don't care if someone shoots them I can't recommend them or use them.
