Shot a big doe this evening, with 100gr rage broadhead, my arrows push out 73ft lbs of kinetic energy. I'm shooting a diamond outlaw, 73lbs draw weight, bow is rated 330 ibo speed. Doe was broadside 20 yds perfect hit behind the shoulder. Arrow did not pass through, she did not bleed but was hit hard she ran 200+ yards (not a speck of blood) before dropping. Have always used muzzy or nap products until this year. Has anyone else had issues like this with rage broadheads? I know my bow makes enough kinetic energy for full penetration. Fixed seems to be the way to go!!

Did you ever retrieve the arrow? Any blood on it? How did the broad head look after the impact?

I've seen this additude many times about expandables. That additude being if you lose an animal shot with an expandable, it was the broadheads fault. If you lose one shot with a fixed blade,it was my fault. Unless you recover the animal, you don't know exactly what happened.

I have seen many deer get hit with a rade an lene tell ya if there's no blood you hit her way up high cause there's gonna be blood where she was hit. This perfect broadside shot I'll bet was either a hard quatering angle to or from an it lidded in the ofside

Sounds like he found the deer to me, "200+ yards until she dropped", to me says that he found her, but no blood and no pass through. Sounds like he's blaming the broadhead for no functioning properly.

Where exactly did you hit her that it didn't pass through, opposite shoulder?
    Did the broadhead not deploy?
Was it still closed when you retrieved it?
Was the entrance hole not the size of the expected cut?
Did you hit her high enough to cause her to bleed out without filling up? If an arrow was still in the hole, and it didn't deploy, there wouldn't have been much of a chance for the blood to escape.

Please update with confirmation of found/not found.

I use fixed, as there's less chance of failure, but know many who use and succeed with expandables.

I did get the deer back, let me clarify after we skinned her. The broadhead did not function properly. The reason i know she ran 200yds was because i shot her in a field and watched her run and drop. After skinning we noticed the blades didn't deploy. I made a very good broadside shot not angling or a quartering shot. The issue isn't the shooter it's the rage. Been bowhunting for almost 21 years now never had a issue like this until i switched to rage. Been shooting bows since alpine archery was around. Going back to fixed MUZZY or NAP, sorry all of you mechanical nuts rage sucks!!!!!

Even if the blades don't deploy you should have still gotten a pass through if you actually are 73 ftlbs of KE. With a 2 inch cut I can understand no pass through but a field tip will pass through on a "broadside 20 yds perfect hit behind the shoulder" with 73 ftlbs of KE.

When I nock an arrow I make sure the broadhead it tight. I then push open the rage blades just to be sure they open easily. Once I know there good I hunt. I've shot over a dozen deer with the rage 100 grain 2 blade and never had an issue. I do not use the new orange o ring I just use the black o ring that comes on it already.
Is it possible you got dirt in it? Please don't be offended But if the head was checked before you shot and the blades moved freely then they should have opened on impact.

A perfect broadside shot right behind the shoulder with a field tip the deer won't go 100 yards let alone 200 yards ... Something is fishy here ... :sheep:

I shoot Rage 100g 2 blade, and lost my first deer. It was due to personal error, not the broadhead, and I still plan on shooting them.

I don't have a ton of experience but depending on how high you hit her, if the blades did not deploy I would think that it cut her and the cavity was filling up with blood which is why you were not seeing any blood trail. Even if the shot was low to mid way up behind the shoulder it would still take time for the blood to fill up and come out the entry hole. I think this would be more plausible from a malfunctioning mechanical broad head, being that he has been hunting for 21 years I would think is shooting is pretty good. I have not tried mechanical's yet but this is making me happy I'm going with fixed Muzzy's.

I think anytime you shoot a mechanical broad head you are going to have some form of doubt or worry in your mind about the performance. I have thought about switching to mechanical for years now, and talk myself out of it every time. My G5 Fixed blade works everytime I let it fly, and it is one less thing I have to worry about working properly. I do agree though, if you are shooting that kind of set up, the arrow should have still penetrated through the deer unless it his some form of major bone...

Man i'm telling you go with the NAP KILLZONE chisel tip!
What that head did to my buck last week was a sight to see. For the record I had been using the rage the last 2 years. I got tired of the rattle.

I have been using Rage for a year now and haven't had a problem. The hole they put into deer was unlike anything i've seen so far. I haven't tried the NAP Killzone as mentioned above but I have heard good things about them.
