I can’t figure out the results that I have seen. I have seen quite a few deer killed with Rage BH but have heard a few sad stories. One that comes to mind is a dandy 150+ 10 pt hit with a 20 yd broad side shot from a Mathews Monster 70lb draw that hit a rib dead on and only went in 5” and was killed by the amish on the next farm with a shotgun 3 weeks later. Heard the tracking/shot story and seen the picture of the dead deer with wound later so story is sound. Know the guy (who will not kill a <130),and threw $100 of Rage BH in trash that night, know the amish that killed him. Long story short to late is the Rage BH worth the $40/3 or not.
The Rage is a devasting head, but it's always going to be a topic of debate to whether or not they are worth shooting. A lot of problems are caused by bows without sufficient KE to take advantage of what the head can do. I shoot expandables (not rages) and love them. On the other hand, COC bh's are foolproof. It all comes down to matter of personal preference.
I personally won't shoot a Rage head. I saw a guy this past fall shoot an antelope at 38 yards out of a 70lb bow, the arrow hit on the back side of the shoulder and the arrow didn't penetrate even the depth of the head. I witnessed this with my own two eyes. By the same token I watched him shoot another goat at 42 yards quartering away and got a complete pass through. I'll stick with my Bloodrunners.
I will second for the bloodrunners!! But with that said there will always be failer stories for all heads so shoot what you have confedence in that is what matters..
Don't like them, I shot A doe 3 seasons ago dead on behind shoulder and she ran 300 yards or better before I found her. The BH never locked in place. I've been using NAP broadheads since then, primarily the 2-blade bloodrunner. Best BH I have ever shot!
I used the rage one season and took a nice buck with them, they performed well for me on that shot. My problem with the rage heads was that the blades would always open in my quiver. I would always have to reset the blades in the ferrule, drove me nuts. So I started using rubber bands to hold the blades shut. It was just to much of an annoyance to me so I quit using them. This past year I used the two blade bloodrunners and was completely happy with the results and will use them again this fall. They offer the same size cut (actually 1/16 larger) without the blade deployment issues.
Same feedback I'm getting as a Shop owner. I do think they are one of the better mechanicals on the market but not the Best IMO. I really prefer solid built fixed blades, but I will load a mechanical now & then to test it out. I shot one of my Bucks this year with the NAP Spitfire Maxx. Very impressive!! Dan
