I'm actually going to try the Rage Hypodermics +P during late season. I shoot a 450gr arrow out of a 65lb bow, 29" draw. I have plenty of bow for the standards but like the compact nature of the +P's. I've been a huge proponent of fixed heads and shot slick tricks for years. I just wanted to try something different. The Rage Hypodermics are the first mechanical that I really liked the looks of.
hypodermic Chinese knockoffs! Have had great results so far Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
I've shot the regular 2" Chisel Tips - not sure if they're discontinuing that model or not but Midway USA, ****s and Academy were blowing them out. Can't remember Midway's price but it was super low and the other two were $29.99.
If you are sold on the Rage with your setup I would recommend the Hypodermic +P I would definitely recommend stay away from the larger cuts. They will kill but with 55 Lbs I would be worried.
Every single time I see the mechanicals suck responses, I have to chuckle. Honestly, I was in that boat for years, but the reality is, mechanicals, at least some, are light years ahead of where they were even 10 years ago. I shot the original Rage, Rocky Mountain Snypers for years and had excellent results. They started to get hard to find and I didn't like the rubber o ring retainment of the blades, so I went back to fixed heads. I firmly believe that any of the slip cam, rear deploying mechanicals are best option if you want to shoot mechanicals. They are just better all around IMO. Since Rage began making the Hypodermics, with the chisel tip head, I think they're about perfect for a mechanical option. This is why I'm going to shoot the +P model during my late season. I don't see the need for an extra 1/2 cut (1/4 on each side of the head more), and I really like the smaller, shorter body on these for strength on bone. Yes, the prices of these things are getting expensive and I've been really into the durability sense of heads. But honestly, I've rethought this. If I get one shot on a deer out of it, it kills the deer and head is junk... its done its job. Go buy a new one. Its not like I"m shooting a dozen of them a year at deer (hope not anyway). I may, if I'm lucky, shoot 4 deer in a year. If that costs me 60 in heads and I have a pile of deer to show for it, money well spent. And yeah, all of these companies are being bought up by one of about 4 major groups....
