Anyone use 'em? What's your experience with using them?

I have a gift card to bestbuy and have always wanted one, espcially with the way I drive, (i know, i know :o ) I could really use one.

Let me fill you in about radar detectors. When they go off your already being clocked. And when the officer comes to your window and sees your nice little radar detector in the dashboard, you can almost certainly bet your chances of a warning are out the same window your handing him you license and registration through!

I stopped getting speeding tickets when I trashed my radar "detector" and started obeying the speed limit. It's been a flawless plan for over a decade.

I got a cobra I picked up from someone else for ten bucks. I rarely speed, but it has saved my ass a couple times, but most of the time it's just too late.

That's my first thought, I've been lucky enough to have never gotten a speeding ticket, or even be pulled over for speeding. *knocks on wood* I figure that if it gets me out of even one ticket, it pays for itself.

You better be sure i'm mounting it so I can take it off and throw it under the seat real quick.

I think radar detectors are alright I have had one for a couple years now and it has saved me a few times. but like poeple said above sometimes by the time it goes off ur screwed especially if they are sitting on side roads! my buddy is going to be a cop and is currently riding with cops for training and he said that they can turn off their radar and flick it on when there approaching you and they know ur speed before you can touch the brakes. So if you do get it dont think you wont get caught because you will

This isn't completely true. The radar leaves the radar gun in a cone shape with the point being the gun and spreading out from there and continuing to get wider and wider. If you are the only car coming at the cop then yeah you're busted but if you are in a group of cars on an interstate or what not, the cop has to determine which car is the one that is approaching him the fastest. Laser detectors on the other hand are a whole different ballgame. If the laser goes off you are busted. The laser beam leaves the gun in a beam shape and stays the same size the whole time. I believe its about a 3 inch beam. It is actually all very interesting stuff. My dad is a cop and his department offers a 10 week class to citizens to learn more about what they do and how they do it. The radar/laser class was neat because we actually got to go out and shoot radar and laser with them.

This however is 100% accurate. :D

And if the cop sees you do this he will think you are hiding drugs or a gun and you will probably have a gun in your face and a cop yelling at you.

    Just Sayin!;)

That's what the 5% window tint is for.;)

I spent a lot of time on the interstate, so the main reason I want one is to know if a trooper is sitting in the median up ahead before he can get a radar gun on me. Chances are he'll be radaring other cars ahead, so I'll have a decent chance of slowing down.

On second thought, this sounds like more trouble than it's worth. :)

Listen to Mudshark he knows of what he speaks!! :)

By the way Mud...what would I have been nailed with if I was caught doing 148 MPH in a Vette whilest racing another Vette on an interstate highway? Just hypothetically?

I figure Drag Racing, Reckless Op, Speeding ......but there has to be a few others thrown in there along the lines of public endangerment.

With any passengers in the car you would have gotten attempted vehicular manslaughter.
