Thats the doe I got and the buck I was chasing that buddy got during gun season. The trail cam pic is actually about a 20 yard shot out of my stand o kept seeing him in. Worst part is the morning that pic was taken I slept in after hunting for about a week straight trying to get him and that was a Sunday morning I skipped. Sent from my SM-G900R4 using Tapatalk
So I got about 3.5 weeks to go before the season opener. This weekend my dad and I are probably going to do our last camera check before the season opener. We got a few nice deer but haven't got the 1 or 2 bigger racked deer that we are use to seeing in July/August camera pulls. Hopefully this weekend will change that. We do have a few 2.5 yr olds and I'm sure a few others we just haven't seen yet so I'd be happy with any of them as well. Typically I'm very picky as I'm more of a horn hunter than a meat hunter. But I might lower my standards a bit this year as I really want to get one with my new Halon 6 So I pretty much hunt managed land a bit which is essentially private but has some public access and public land. For the past 10 years we typically only see a couple hunters which is really nice. I'm a big person on staying away from other people so once we get to Mid-October and I have to hike a mile in I definitely will do it if it means getting away from other hunters. I also have 1 other spot that I started hunting last year that I was seeing 8+ deer every sit that I'm hoping pays off this year. I kept seeing the does but the bucks never showed up which I was really surprised. I think it might have been the warmer weather. Hopefully we can get a colder rut this year to get more daytime movement. so whats all yours guys plans so far this year? Doing anything different?
I'm headed out this weekend to the spot my buddy told me about. If I'm still holding an unfilled tag afterwards, I have one more weekend and one more spot to try
I'll be absent sept 8 th through the 24 th so don't think I abdoned ship. Headed to Colorado to hunt Elk (Archery)
I keep giving her 100% each year. It does get a little frustrating at times as I feel like things just cant go my way just once. Last year I passed on a 2.5 yr old 7 pointer that I kinda regret not taking but it was early October. He walked by me 3 times that night and just couldn't pull the trigger. I love the rut so much so I almost feel like I hunt only solid 2.5 yr olds or 3.5 yr olds or older until the rut kicks in. Only thing is my rut hunting hasnt been that good for 2 yrs now with warmer weather.
Well last year wasn't a good year for bow hunting period. I pulled my shotgun back out last year cuz I was desperate and hadn't used it for 3 years. We all had to fight the warm weather. You'll have dry years , Mother Nature is in control but that's part of hunting but the more effort u spend and time put in the more rewarding it is. That's why we bow hunt , for the challenge of it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
