Had a 1.5y/o 4pt come within 5 yds about 20 times as he paced up and down the tree line.

Saw three today, and one blowing where I park my truck, never saw it, just heard it. It was hot these last two days, not much fun. Weather looks like its about to drop off a lot this coming week, next weekend should be much better.

I'll be up in the tree this afternoon. I was hoping to get out this morning which was the coldest morning of the season so far but I had an appointment.

I stayed home this past weekend. Just couldn't get myself to go when it was 75 degrees out. Hopefully this next weekend is cooler. Plus on a good note, I got pretty much approved for most of my vacation days I put in for. Last 2 Fridays in October to give me 3 day weekends. and then November 4th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th. and I still got 3 days I have to use up so I might just take the 16th, 17th and 18th as well and live in the woods.

I'm made it to the woods. I'm in the stand as I type. I just sat down and it has already been the hunt from hell. It's been one of those deals where you get out of the truck and the wind isn't what was forecasted so I made an adjustment to my locations. However I broke a rule and had to cross a trail to get to the tree I wanted to be in. I got up in the tree and realized I had no shot and the wind was totally wrong for that tree. So I climbed down, packed up, and walked about 50 yards to find another tree. After hmm'ing and haw'ing for 10 min I decided the tree I picked first was the best. So I climbed it again, this time a little lower so I have a shot. We'll see if I can squeeze the wind to work out for me and hopefully I'll shoot a deer before it bolts after smelling where I crossed his trail 3 times.

I've been there man lol like walking all the way to your tree and realizing you don't have your harness on and when u make it back and finally get set in the tree and it's hot outside you go to put your release on and it falls to the bottom of your tree. So back down u go sweating to death

Ha I forgot my release instead of harness. Was right on bed rail of truck where I put it to remember to put on after got dressed. Those types of starts almost take the motivation right out of you ha.

Last night's hunt made up for it. I saw 7 deer and most were in range. No shooters but a really good looking young buck was under my tree after sitting for only a few minutes. He was a very odd 5 pointer with huge wide and tall beams. Just not much for points. In a few years I'm sure he'll be a nice deer. I'm up in the tree again this morning. Not much movement but there were two deer under my stand when I got here. I hate it when that happens.

Well we're on the board. Shot a doe just before 6:30 last night. Pass through shot, hit right where I was aiming, bolted off. Picked up the blood trail right away. Really good blood, one of the better trails I've followed. It took me right to the deer, the bad part was she was still alive. I could barely see her moving in the beam of the flashlight so I backed out, went home, ate dinner, and attempted to sleep and planned to go back out at midnight. I couldn't sleep and decided at 10 based on the color and amount of blood I could take up the trail again. I picked right back up on her blood trail and had good blood for 100 yards that turned into 200 yards, then 300. Finally after just shy of 600 yards I found her dead and stiff. The second track job/field dress/drag out of the woods took just about an hour. I didn't have any help last night and wound up doing the whole thing solo, which I kind of enjoyed. Heading to the scoreboard to post the pics.

That should work, hopefully it doesn't stink.
Good job rampaige, nice to finally see some brown in here. Hopefully I can drop one from this wet stand this evening.

Nice job man, always good to lay one down. I got my clothes drying right now and got all the last minute things ready to go for the morning. Will haveta say this is about the most unprepared I've felt for opening day in long time. But hopefully it's just a feeling ha. So good luck guys, I'll be up in a tree in the morning.

Night report. Today was good, had a momma doe with three new babies with her come in. Almost stuck the little one since momma wouldn't turn, she stayed either quartering to, or straight on. Little doe I thought about shooting turned out to be a button buck, thankfully I'm a softy with the little babies. Towards end of season they are fair game, but now they are still brown and look like their spots faded recently.
10 min after all that excitement, I see three good bucks head where the does came out, unfortunately they went into wood line, then crossed back over the field. There was a fourth but I could not tell if buck or doe.
Overall, good night in the stand, got to get the heart pumping and maybe get some of that jitters worked out.
I may get out in morning, depends on wife, it's her birthday weekend so I guess I have to show her some attention. Weather is getting good, dropping into high 40/low 50 at night.
