    Congrats Dusty!! :tu:

I got this guy in my area, not a monster, but I think I'd shoot him if given the chance.

This only the second time I've gotten a pic of a yote in my area in 16 years! Actually, I got about 6 different pics of him.

Just got back from the farm. Had three different sits. Saw 5 different bucks but nothing that I would shoot. They were certainly interested in the does. My brother and I moved a stand today to try to bracket the big deer and give us an alternative stand for wind.

I'll be making my first serious effort at killing a buck today! I had some awful bronchitis for the last 2 weeks, and the severe coughing made it impossible to be in the woods. I'll be OK with a Halloween buck though! :chewy: I'll post my results tonight.

Sat for 6 hours and didn't see squat, except a BIG doe on the way in. I guess the Halloween trick is on me?

We had some really strong winds from a front that pushed through last night. It knocked out power to a lot of areas around here but I'm worried about the damage to the lease. There was a large red cell in that area that the readings where showing 50-100mph winds last night. We will see how many downed trees I come across Friday afternoon. Maybe all the acorns are off the trees and soured now after that good rain and wind though!

Out in the stand now, I’ve had a few doe come through but nothing close enough for a shot. Also had a small buck come through right after sun up cruising...definitely getting to that time of year around here! I’ll try and keep you guys posted throughout the weekend.

Was on stand this morning until about 10:30. 8 does and 4 bucks, nothing I wanted to shoot at this point. Does were very wary of the bucks and the bucks chased them around trying to check scent. Nothing big has walked by yet. The rut is getting close.

How far is to far of a shot for you guys? And what's the furthest you've ever taken a deer?

Were I live at we only have mule deer. Most my mule deer have been spot and stock. My max on deer is 50 yards and on elk it is 40 yards. My longest shot has been 52 yards on a mule deer. When I go to Kansas 40 yards on whitetail. Whitetail act a lot different then Mule deer. My longest Whitetail shot has been 30 yards. Most my deer and elk have been taken at 20-30 yards. I truly don't feel comfortable past 50 yards in my shooting.

Back at it this morning, looking for my second ever birthday buck. First time it happened was the first deer I ever shot, hard to believe that was 17 years ago already! Nothing seen so far this morning but still plenty of time left.

I'm comfortable at 30-40. But in east Texas everything is so thick, rarely do I have a shot that will be any further than 25 yards

Longest whitetail shot was a ranged 44 yards. Most of my shots are set up around 20 yards. Some on the farm are 30 and I could shoot farther down there but I like to limit myself to under 40. I practice out to 70 yards but with a whitetail there is just so much that can go wrong with a looong shot.

My hunt did not go as planned yesterday morning at the farm. Front moved through Friday night and woke up Saturday morning to clear skies little or no wind and a decent frost. Got ready, got in truck and after a short drive parked for the 10 minute hike to the stand. Getting my bow out of the case and putting it in my bow carrier I noticed that the D loop had come untied. That was a major bummer. Like a trooper though I wanted to scout the spot about deer movement so made my way to the stand anyway and sit that morning with a gun with no bullets. It was one of those great mornings to deer hunt though and after the dreary wet weather and with the fall foliage it was stunning to see the sun come up. Got my d loop fixed later that day.

Well guys I put in another long weekend and no luck. I did see a nice what looked like to be a shooter way off in the distance this morning. My buddy shot underneath our #1 buck and just barely missed him. We've been narrowing down his spots and finding him on camera in this one particular creek bottom. He's slipping up and making daylight appearances... So hopefully he's around for the future hunts.

I will only be hunting next Saturday during the day. I'm trying guys, be patient!
