A little update here ive been hunting alot almost everyday. All my target bucks from early season have changed patterns. A farmer i hunt on bought alot of new ground and very nicely have me permission to hunt all of it. With in the first couple sits ive seen some nice bucks. I hung 2 steathcams and this is the biggest ive seen thus far. Seeing alot of bucks starting to chase and rattled in a few smaller bucks last night here in Northern Illinois. Goodluck as the rut seems to be kicking in!
Well, finally got my SXS delivered to me yesterday! Hopefully this is the start of something great this season!
Went out this morning and saw a very nice up and coming 9 pointer. If he makes it a couple of more years he should be something. Had another buck come in which was a small 6 pointer and about 15 does marched through. The 9 pointer scent checked a bunch of the does and tore a tree up while I watched. Pretty nice morning.
A little update on tonights hunt in Nothern Illinois. Saw 6 diffrent bucks, both of my shooter bucks were feeding in the field. I have a bean field behind me which a really nice triple beam bucks snuck up behind me at 30 yards. Dont know what happened but shot right over him. Feeling pretty discourached and have that upset feeling when you miss a giant
Been a marathon of work for me guys, mostly 10-12 hour days for what seems like an eternity... but I was able to squeak out a morning sit last Tuesday, when the high pressure set in after the cold front. Unfortunately, you could hear a pin drop a hundred yards away and the deer weren't interested in moving. My vacation officially begins after work this Saturday. I'm gonna try to hit it especially hard the first 4 days, and hoping the influx of nonresidents doesn't pour across the borders until Nov. 1 (I hunt on public). Fingers crossed for good conditions!
At least it was a clean miss. Hoping you get your redemption my man. Maybe something bigger was meant to come along!
When I have been in that position with shooting at a deer like that and missing it has been my one consolation that it was a clean miss and not a wounding shot. I have wounded a couple of deer through the years and nothing bothers me more than making a shot that does not produce a clean kill. Consequently I tend to be very selective with my shots anymore. That being said I tend to remember and walk through the misses over and over and over and obsess about them way more than the good shots that I have had over the years. Bowhunters curse I guess. Best cure for that is just to get back out there and get after it again.
Went out yesterday morning, 1st frost that we had in my neck of the woods. Had several does again this morning to work through and the up and coming 9 pointer also showed up again. The bucks are scent checking now and cruising a bit. I think the next couple of weeks should be good. Going to my farm this weekend and going to sit a couple of times and maybe get a look at the big boy that's down there.
Out in stand as we speak but really not much movement this morning, just a 1.5 year old 5 pointer. I’ll be out the rest of the weekend too so I’ll keep you guys updated if I see/shoot anything. Good luck to all others going out!!
If you guys whatch the videos i had my #1 hit list at 4 yards he need to take 1 more step but he blew out of there. Tured around and a 9 pointer came in to 10 yards n i ended up shooting him. Hes not a giant but wasnt going to pass him up. Still have to mesure and tape him up. More pics to come
Got some potential later this afternoon. I have a nice buck in the 120 range possibly coming a lot in the evenings. I'm on this set right now so hopefully he messes up. We will see what he looks like on the hoof if I decide to shoot.
