My neighbor gave me some frozen rabbit he shot last season. I've never cooked it nor eaten it before but I'm dying to give it a whirl. I plan to small game hunt with my bow regularly in season and want to make sure I even like it first, I'm not about to just thrill kill a bunch of bunnies.....what kind of MONSTER do you take me for :D
The only advice he gave me was not to cook it fast or it can dry out quickly and get tough. I figure I can't screw up with a crock pot, anyone have any family recipes they're willing to share ?
Hasenpfeffer looks tasty on line but I'd probably cook it wrong.

I'd do a dry rub of rosemary, thyme, and sage (plus salt and pepper of course) and then put celery, carrots, and onions with few cups of water in the crock pot and the rabbit on top. Cook on low heat for 4-5 hours.

Also, if you want to get crazy you can dip them in a seasoned flour mix and then sear them on each side in a pan of oil for a 20-30 seconds per side to seal the juices before putting them in the crock pot.

Rabbit is delicious. My grandma always seasoned with salt and pepper, rolled in flour, and then pan fried until light brown on both sides moved to a baking dish and then made gravy out of the drippings in the pan and poured over the browned rabbit and stuck it in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. She would ado a little water just to keep the gravy a little loose. Served over mashed potatoes.
