I found out that my neighbor lady who was still quick as a whip, and still enjoyed drinking a cold beer on the front porch listening to old country passed away early this morning. She'd been doing well until the last couple months when she was diagnosed with cancer in her kidney and spine, and she had a slow decline until I believe she was just ready to go. Her family are a great bunch of people, all good, nice people. The kind of people you like to be around, and can enjoy their company and talk about anything in the spectrum of life. I've learned in my job that many times you can tell a lot about a person by the family they have raised. Well, if I were ever in question of the type of person she may have been, knowing her family has more than reassured me that she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and person. I had to explain to my little girls last night that Miss Betty had gone to hospice, and she was soon going to go meet God. She wasn't going to be sitting on the porch over there next door anymore, not going to be there for us to take cookies to at Christmas or for them to wave to as they zipped around the yard on their 4-wheelers. Funny how they seemed to just understand and not really ask too many questions.
Doug, sorry to hear about it. Sounds like you already have a great grasp on how great of a woman she was. Remember the good times and love/appreciate her for that. Thoughts go out to hers and your family.
Thanks all, she was a very special lady. Her family is heartbroken, yet happy that she didn't suffer. And to have lived at home until just about 2 wks. before she died, over 90yrs. is a very wonderful thing indeed. She was born and raised on the farm across the street, got married, and then she and her husband built the house that she lived in. The stories she could tell were well worth the time of sitting and listening to her..... I'm sure she is indeed resting in peace.
