Once I climb up, I take my quiver off my bow and hang it on a gear hook. I gather most of us do the same? Anyway, while I was digging around in my bag for the calls, I knocked the quiver off the hook and to the ground it goes. It was about 4pm so I figured I did not have time to climb down and get it. And, of course, I had a deer come in and only had the arrow in my bow. The shot hit a twig and thus I missed. And, of course, the deer was not spooked and gave me another shot....but my quiver was on the ground. So, my question(s) for everyone is... Do you leave your quiver on your bow in stand? Do you practice 'rapid' reloading for a follow up shot? Or is it better to take it off and just not be a bonehead? LOL Thanks!
I have not used one the last few years but starting next year I am going to. I have mine in the back pack and with those rage heads continuing to come loose and driving me nuts im going back to a quiver. Anyone have a recommendation for one to use with rage and bloodrunner heads?
I was wondering about this scenario the other day, my quiver always hangs in different locations in each stand from branch nubs or a hook. If a 2nd shot is needed it would be rather difficult to do stealthily. Thought about ordering some arrow clips to put one arrow in an easy to access place in each treestand. Be pretty simple arrow removal whereas some of the quivers can get a deathgrip on them especially when colder temps cause the rubber to stiffen up.
Thanks all.... Putting it on the bow hanger and not a small hook is a (duh) good idea. But, I need to get a quiver with a opening big enough to fit. Off the the store. LOL I would like to hear from anyone who leaves it on their bow and if any one has found a scenario where a 'rapid' follow up shot was successful because the quiver was on the bow. OR (tounge firmly in cheek) A 'Van Helsing' style x-bow. LOL
I use the Realtree EZ-Hangers for my bow and quiver both. I remove my quiver, slide it over the hanger to the tree, then hang my bow. There's no possible way for the quiver to fall off, thus no possible way for me to be a bonehead. :D
I keep my quiver on my bow in case that exact scenario plays out, which happened this year. I spine shot my buck which dropped him in his tracks, quickly nocked another arrow and put one through the vitals. I used to take my quiver off and hang it in the tree, but after dropping it more than once i've found it easier to just keep it on.
I have a solution for you but it may require you to change quivers. :D I've always been a fan of kwikee quivers and they have this tree mount that you screw onto the tree and then slide the quiver on. There is absolutely no way that it will fall off. I'm sure other quiver manufacturers have something similar, maybe?
i keep my quiver in my pack with the end of the arrows sticking out, when i walk in i do the same with ne arrow in my bow.
I keep mine on my bow most of the time ... not sure why peeps don't? I have gotten off PLENTY of second shots
I'm new around here, so I am not a subject matter expert on this.... But I hear this statement is open for debate. :D ---- Thanks for the knowledge all. This is my 2nd year bowhunting and this place is a valuable resource.
I super glued a small piece of elastic cord in a loop to the top of my quiver. Works great for hanging on a bow hook
I hang my quiver on a screw hook that is placed behind me at all of my stand sites. This hook also prevents the seat section from slipping down on to the platform. I'll keep a back up arrow in my day bag (broadhead down ) which hangs on another hook right beside me. It's all good.
T ... check out the Alpine quikloc or softloc or something like that .... it has clips in 2 places to hold the arrow .... pull the foam out of the top and walla
I practice with my quiver off, so I hunt with it off. It's also just something else to possibly snag onto things and or make unwanted noise.
