I don't know if I'll ever quit, but I have made myself slow down, which I am in the process of doing now. I switched to skoal pouches, and when i only needed 2 or 3 of those a day I switched to the skoal bandits and it helped get the mental side down as well as whatever physical addiction there actually is. Something to think about

I am gagging thinking about it seriously. I quit cold turkey in December and it has a little easier now after 7 months but after salty foods or when I see someone else with a juicy dip I start to crave one. You just gotta go with it and know whats best. There is no easy way that I know of cause after 10 years like you said it is such a normal habit. Good luck! You can do it you just have to want to bad enough.

I quit all the time... I can go for a while without issue, but at about 6 weeks I hit a wall.

TMJ keeps me from sunflower seeds or chewing gum..If I could do either of these I could totally quit much easier.

Right now I have no desire to quit. I have about a 2.5 can a week habit. Problem is I enjoy it! and the wife don't mind.

I smoked for 10 years, never chewed more than a time or two in highschool. I can tell you how I quit smoking, hopefully that helps you a bit.

I quit using the patch. It takes about 3 days of torture to be able to get used to the patch, and about a week after each transition to a lower level. With that said, it really does take the edge off compared to cold turkey. After that initial period, you are good to go until you get to the second step and lower the nicotine level. My main advice is to take at least as long as they recommend between stages, I know a lot of people that tried and got too aggressive with the different stages too quickly, and it became more than they could bear and they started again.

It took me almost 2 years of having cravings on a daily basis, probably the first 10 months or so were with the patch on. To this day I still get cravings a bit, but usually only when I have a few (or more :d ) drinks in me and I'm around someone else that is smoking.

Hope this helps, I can honestly say I probably wouldn't have been able to quit without the patch. It was probably one of the hardest things to do that I can remember, you really have to want it and be ready to quit otherwise you are wasting your time. I'm going on 5 years now smoke free.

The above is very true. I smoked/chewed for 10 plus years with the majority of it being smoking. I am 13 months smoke free. I quit cold turkey/sunflower seeds. The main ingredient in my quitting was actually wanting to quit. Many times before I stopped, I'd say I wished I could quit. Many times before I quit, I said I don't think I'll ever be able to quit. When it came down to it, it was purely making my mind up to do so and doing it. By no means am I saying that you shouldn't use a patch or other med, but the main ingredient is in your determination/perserverance.

I didn't think I stated that I was going to try and quit but I haven't chewed since last Sunday, and I'll keep it that way.

I've done that before...I can go a month and then just get a craving when I'm going fishing or scouting. But if I can stop with the friends I've made here, I think I can get it licked for good.

I gave away my can on Monday at work and didn't have a dip all week...

Then I faultered last night after "several" drinks, I stole one from the buddy I had given my can to at work. So, I'm back on the wagon again.:bash:

I'm opening a new can now, Dated June 8th~ still cool, fresh, moist.

I pause to savor the smell before plunging 2 fingers and a thumb, deep into her damp round box.
Before her flavorful goodness even reaches my lip, a sigh pauses on my breath.
Full satisfaction arrives almost too quickly as the climax of the first spit erupts from my hungry mouth.

~~ Man I'm going to shower...It's that good!

I think Apple flavored Skoal is the devil himself.

Been thru Happy Days back in the 70's, Skoal Wintergreen in the 80's, Copenhagen in 80's - '07, went to Skoal Apple in '08. Been at this stuff for 30 years. You gotta be able to go Cold Turkey or nothin' I believe.

2 more days and I will hit the one year mark. 2 cans a day, threw them out and have not looked back. I did LOVE a good dip, skoal straight long cut...or whatever anyone else had on them at the time.

OK Guys truthfully how did quitiing work for you?

I'm giving it another go...I'm clean since Good Friday..A bit edgy apparently :)

Smokey Mountain (herbal snuff) tastes real good (cherry flavor..just ordered natural and peach flavor from thier site).

Trying to break a 15+/- year habit here.
