    All I know is that it's some sort of pastry.

    I didn't know there was such a thing as lutefisk until I lived in North Dakota. It was pretty clear to me that those guys had no idea what pizza really was either. ;)

    Around here we have 'horseshoes' or 'horseshoe sandwiches' or the smaller 'ponyshoe' ... which I'm quite sure would not meet Hooker's standard of finer dining. :D

    I knew because I've been to NOLA before and had them. My mother in law also sent us a box of pre-packaged ingredients from Cafe Du Monde to make here....it wasn't quite the same.

    a beignet is not exactly fine dining

    it's basically just a donut without the hole, covered in powdered sugar

    I just thought they were famous enough for most people to know what they were, guess I was wrong

    Gotta love "The Morning Call" but "Cafe Du Monde' is better known. You can even order the mix and make them at home now.

    I love my "Morning Call" coffee "dark". It is stout but so good to tame all that powdered sugar. If you go to Morning Call, (Vetrans Blvd in Metairie) make sure Frank serves you. He's been there for something like 35 years and tells hilarious story after story.
