Ok so where i am going hunting this evening i have seen does just about every time i go be there. in this area there are a good amount of rubs. Now, i havent put a cam there for some reason so i dont know what kind of bucks are in the area. There are some very very nice rubs in this area and some smalls ones with a few scrapes. So, my question is, Say i get out in the stand this afternoon and some does come up on me. What would yall do? i know its getting close to the rut and thats when the bucks start chasing the does. Would it be better for me to wait and pass up the does in hopes for getting an opportunity on a buck or should i go ahead and shoot a doe? Any advice will be helpful :p

What is your goal? Trophy or meat?

It depends on what your looking for. I have passed on does several times this year. I will eventually take one or two. There is nothing wrong with taking the doe. I'm just looking for the bucks right now.

If I didn’t have any meat in the freezer and I hadn’t established a hit list I’d have to go with the “Bird in the Hand” theory. That’s just me tho! However, if a doe came in and I could tell she had something on her tail… I might have to wait and see what it is.

yeah depends what your goal is. I already had meat in the freezer so have passed on a number of does. Does = buck bait.

So weekend before last, had a doe come in, not a care in the world. She hung out grazing.

15 minutes later another doe comes in with a buck hot on her tail.

So, one doe WAS buck bait but the other not yet. But will be in the next week or so.

I've got 9 days left. If a deer, any deer, bigger than a Great Dane comes anywhere near me, he or she is going in my freezer.

I live in a fairly small house. I really don't have space to hang mounts. If my sons want to concentrate their efforts on bucks, that's their choice. I'm concentrating on dinner.
