Hey guys, I know I'm probably starting late compared to others but this coming weekend I plan on taking soil samples, bush hogging the field, and spraying. The field hasn't been planted in anything in over 30 years or so, which is why I'm having to get the samples. My question is regarding to spraying, what should I use, where should I get it, and how long after I spray will it be okay to go ahead and plant? Thanks In advance!

id spray first with a Glyphosate (round up) then mow. then you would want to disk it up some how to get a decent soil on seed for a good seed bed and then plant for the best results.

I'd spray with a "Round-up" type spray and let it sit for a couple of weeks, then mow, disc it in and plant.
Have you decided what to plant?

Put in winter wheat or rye for the first planting it will make the next crop more weed free, also post in the food plot section we all need to make an effort to promote different sections of the forum.

Agree w/ the round up plan. One recommendation would be to kill the weeds, wait til brown, turn the ground and plant. I learned the hard way that weeds grow fast. If u turn and let it sit, the weeds have a head start, and they are already a pain to contend w/.

Soybeans all the way great early season before Acorns and won't find better late season after all the beans and corn is cut around you every deer around will be in your bean patch if you have a decent sized plot. Plus with the beans you can come in August and broadcast in some radish, turnip, winter wheat seeds right over the top of them. When their leaves yellow and fall off your winter wheat and tubers will still be growing away

The others advice about round up first then mow real short then disc is spot on.

Plenty of time. Most guys up here are still getting over the snow last week and probably won't plant beans for another 2 or 3 weeks.

No you can plant now till about September. Just want them in at least 60 days before a frost. Want time for them to pod out.

You'll be fine with beans. Most everyone around here has had a head start on everything. Corn is anywhere from 2-4" tall. Spraying has already started for the bean crop. I'm guessing anywhere in the next couple of weeks beans will be in.

We just disc everything that was left over from last year under. Our beans are about 2" tall. We'll see how that pans out.

Pfftt, due to wet weather last year I think I planted the last of my replant beans around July 15th in 2015 and many acres went in here up into august and made....I like Roundup/Sharpen for beans. I have also tank mixed Authority XL for mine since they are conventional beans but I think I'm skipping that this year initially trying to keep the cost down. If I can get a canopy going, I can generally get by pretty good on weed control because of no-till and crop residue.
