I've been out of the game for awhile so now that I'm getting back into it I have a few questions that maybe you guys can help me with. 1. I have seen all the evidence that deer are frequenting the are I'm hunting and I'm not seeing any deer what so ever. I did get wheezed (alert wheezed) on last Saturday. the only day I have hunted is Friday of this week and there are fresh tracks as well as droppings around the food plot I've been hunting. Do I keep my bearing and stay put and be patient, or do I just abandon the sight until it gets a little colder? 2. Are buck alert wheezes different from does alert wheezes? I ask because one app I have they sound completely different. The one I heard sounded like the Buck Alert. FYI, I never saw the buck, heard a lot of movement behind me then bam got wheezed. 3. I left the stand on Friday with out seeing anything, on my drive home (Dark out) I counted 27 deer within a 3 mile span back to my house. Why are they waiting until then? Is it due to the high hunting pressure or the fact it has been close to 70 degrees during the day for the past week? 4. I have a gorilla climbing stand that I purchased about 7 years ago. Steel tubing construction, How can I make this thing quieter? I use several straps to make it tight as possible to limit any movement. I also added a ALICE Packframe to it for added comfort. But I still get squeaks from time to time and can't figure out what to do to it other than maybe some moleskin. (Don't want to add to the scent issue anymore than I already have.) Any tips/comments would be greatly appreciated.
With the temp. high and the current moon phase night movement iS really common. Keep hunting the stand make sure you use scent killer to minimize your scent and try to avoid winds that direct your scent towards the deers bedding and staging areas. There is a difference in the wheezes in deed. buck are usually a little deeper pitched much like humans. For your climber ide try oiling it down with some scent free oil and then spray your stand down with scent killer. You could also try putting some plastic around some of the parts that are non moving parts. If you have the ability try putting out a trail camera and try to see when the deer are visiting this area. With the upcoming new moon in a couple days deer movement should really be pushed to the first and last hour of day light since there will be no moon light to help them see.
