I just got the camera in last night. Also got my shotgun mic and varizoom remote in last week. What settings should I run to get the best out of this setup. I keep hearing not to run in auto but I have no idea what I'm doing on this thing. This thing has way more features then I'm used to. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Use the cam in auto for the rest of the season except auto focus. Then practice with it over the winter for next season
That's kind of what I was planning. Make it easier on myself I guess. I've got a lot of tinkering to do! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agreed. For 99% of situations running the camera in auto is just fine. The only time I ever mess with my settings is when I'm filming someone else and it's getting dark, or we're dealing with a really bright sunny day. Other than that the camera usually does just fine on it's own.
I just got the same camera in the mail the other day also. Brand new to filming and this is my first camera. Seems a bit overwhelming but hopefully a little practice will go a long way. Have fun learning the ins and outs.
You can typically run the camera in auto most of the time, that will control your ISO, Gain and shutter speed automatically and keep your exposure as close to correct as possible. Auto focus can give you issues though. Auto focus tends to cause the camera to "hunt" for focus and if you are trying to film through any branches it will typically focus on the branches and not what you are trying to have in focus. One of the tricks to getting the camera to work easily in manual focus is to zoom out to the furthest distance that you will need to have in focus. Get than in focus and then zoom back out. Everything will be in focus out to that point. Now if I you zoom in to any other focal point after that, you will have to refocus to get that spot sharp. Another trick that can help is to zoom in to your target and hit the auto focus button. The camera will focus on that point, then turn off auto focus and that point will remain in focus. That can be a quick and easy way to find focus when you are in a hurry.
Thanks I will give that a try! You have been extremely helpful with all of my questions! Very much appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you want to PM me your number I can call you tonight and go thru settings with you. IMO you will get more from the camera setting it up right. I've been playing with mine for over a year now, DD/MO helped me set up mine initially and I have played with it a lot since. Now that I have it mostly figured out... time to upgrade lol
