Recently, I've been thinking of replacing my climber with a lock on and sticks. I REALLY would like to have arm rests on my lock on as it makes me feel much safer, and frankly, more comfortable. I've seen the Muddy sticks and stands, and LOVE the idea of them being lightweight. But they are missing the arm rests that I'd need. I've looked at using the Big Game Universal Shooting Rail for my lock on, IF I go this route. 1-Do you just use your climbing belt for your safety harness as you put the sticks and stand up? 2-How do you get the stand up, and hung, safely? 3-How high do you get with your sticks? Any other info would be appreciated!
1.- Yes 2.- Depends on the situation. I've been only 15 feet up, but today I moved my hang on and, with the help of some screw in steps, I'm probably 20-22 feet up. The highest I've ever been. It scares me 3.- I just realized I answered number three with number 2, but anyway, my dad, brother and I take a screw in step or any other screw in hook and take a rope and tie it around the stand and create a kind of a pully system to get the stands up in the air. After that it's pretty simple just tightening ratchets and straps and anythinge else that makes you feel safe. Of course, we use Gorilla King Kong's which are pretty heavy for lock on's, but they have big platforms, are plenty comfortable and definitely safe (with arm rests). Hope this helps.
Thanks guys for the info. I'm pretty stupid when it comes to lock ons, having never hung on. Hunted out of a few, and know they are pretty basic to install. Agreed on the Gorilla King Kong, that stand is JUST what I'd love to have for a run and gun type setup. If only it was 11 pounds! I also LOVE how the stand and sticks work together with the Muddy and Lone Wolf. I really enjoy long sits, and sitting in a stand without a arm rest or something to keep me "in" the stand, makes me a little iffy.
