I have been wondering alot latley, that i might have made a big mistake. I have a couple of stands in spots i have seen alot of deer movement, but i didnt take into consideration, that the bean field the only real source of food, for the deer is on the complete oppisite side of the land i hunt, i was only thinking about the heavy traffic i saw and i think i made a mistake.

So my questions are in the fall, will the deers travel just be completly different that what it is now?, and not even be in the spots that they are at now.

Did i make a mistake and put my stands to far away from thier food source? Will they change thier bedding areas so they travel less distance to get to the food source?

MN, I find that in the early season when it is still hot, the deer bed much closer to the food source as to eliminate unnecessary travel. I do not hunt crop fields b/c there are none where I hunt, but I do hunt food sources (acorns). I cannot tell you how many times I have set up on acorns in the early season only to see bedded deer within 50-75 yards. Sometimes they are bedded right at the food source.

If you placed your stands between where they bed and where they feed, I do not think you are doing anything wrong. That can hold true throughout the season. Their bedding areas will change as the pressure hits during the season and the temperatures drop.

x2. Only thing I would add is to keep in mind that once that bean field is harvested, for a short time following the harvest it will be loaded with deer, which could ultimately lead them to bedding closer to the bean field.

    ok thanks guys,

but now i have a couple more questions, but with those stands away from the field, will i have better chances at a bigger buck in those stands, instead of a stand near the field? couple reasons because it will be less pressured in that area my stands are at(because my cousin wil be hunting near that bean field). and Also they are located near a swamp know for holding big bucks. And my stand is in a area full of oaks, so will the bigger bucks just ignore the bean field till dark, and just munch on the oaks near their bedding area, and just wait until dark to make the trek to the field?
