Was a rainy day today so I went to go set a climber stand on a trail I'd had in mind for a while. Turns out the area was on Indian Reservation land, so I went and did a bit of snooping about. The woods I hunt are boarded by both a corn field and oat field. The oats had been combined some months ago and corn just chopped. I went and (probably foolishly for this time of year) walked the edge of the field looking for a trail and a tree I could set my stand up. Right along the oat field I found what seemed like a heavily traversed trail. I took a few steps into the woods and saw the ground had been rutted up. The leaves were all out of order with some top soil was showing. It didn't look like scrapes though, not neat and clean enough and no licking branches. The area was littered with this type thing for a good 50 square feet. One tree had an old rub on it that looked like it hadn't been used in a while, but I found some fresh droppings right on the trail so I know they still use the trail. So my question is what was I seeing there on the ground? Anyone ever seen anything like this before? Wish I had had the foresight to take some pictures. Thanks!
It does sound like a flock of turkey's, they will scratch the ground looking for bugs and such.. Make it look like hogs been rooting ) Our Missouri bow tag is two deer and two turkey.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Turkeys or maybe some pre rut buck fighting, I think the rut is gonna come earlier than nov 7th where i am at in northwest ohio. killed a booner on oct 7th that was in rull rut mode.
The thought had crossed my mind being turkey's, but the deer droppings made me reconsider. I actually saw some turkey's run into the woods from a the corn field when I was walking to my stand a few weeks ago, so it makes perfect sense.
