Hey guys looking at heading over to the usa in the next year or two and would love to bring my bow along and try and get my self a white tail , my question is does every one over there hunt from a stand and blind or do some people spot and stalk hunt .almost all bowhunting here in aus is on the ground stalking and stuff . If no body does spot and stalk is there a reason why?? thanks
I wouldnt come here we are broke.......Most hunt from stands. Whitetails spot those blinds in a heartbeat if they arent well hidden and left out for months for them to get used to it
I got lucky a couple times creeping around the woods early morning. But it is total luck. I used to do it only when the ground was wet. Your better off sitting in a stand in one spot and wait. This is for the midwest anyhow. Out west it could be differant.
What he said. In the open country of plains, mule deer are hunted by spot and stalk. It can be done under proper conditions with white tails, but most of the terrain favors the deer spotting you, simply because you're moving and the deer aren't likely to break cover. It can Be done, but it requires a high degree of luck, skill and intimate knowledge of the property you're hunting. You can try sneaking into a day time bedding area, or locate an active trail and set up in an improvised blind. In either case, the slower you move, the better your chances. The elevated position provides several advantages: reduced scent, may allow to you to see before being spotted, easier to draw undetected, better visual after shot tracking.
