I just picked up a new spot near Nicholes NY and just wont to know a few things about hunting NY. Sorry Im to lazy to try to look it up, but I have tried with other questions in NY before and I swear your game commission website is like reading a laws in french...I dont feel like getting a headache trying to figure out a few questions when there are plenty of fine fokes on here with answers. Im not to concerned about getting doe tags but is it possible there? Do they come with your license or do you have to mail out for them? Do you have to take a deer to a check station in NY if you harvest any or call it in or is it just like PA where you tag it and take it to the butcher? I think thats all I have for questions for now...if I think of more I will post it. Thanks in advance for your time guys and gals!

In NY every WMA zone has a different number of doe tags to sell, some areas are easy to get and others you need preference points. Finding out which WMA can be easy by just asking the place where you are buying your licence for a WMA map. You apply for your doe tags as you are getting your tags in the store and you are notified withing seconds if you have gotten one or not. When you apply you get 2 chances to get a tag, this could be twice in the same wma or in two different wma's. The first apply is the best chance you will have at getting a tag and the second chance is less likely. You can get 2 tags if you are extremely lucky but you are not guaranteed a tag and if you do not get one you receive 1 preference for next year. There is another drawing for doe tags in the first week in November so you could always apply again but i don't know how that is done. If you do receive a tag you must pay $10 for each one you get. I hope this isn't too confusing to you.

You don't have to check any thing in. A few yeas ago you would have if you were in the CWD zone but there is no CWD in NY anymore. When you arrive to you deer fill out your tag right away but you are not required to attach it to the deer until you reach your destination like car or skinning shed. You have 7 days to call the number on the back of your tag and report the deer you have harvested.
