I went out this morning and used my new Alpha Hang-on for the first time. My first dark set-up did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. But any way my question is how many sticks does everyone use? I purchased 4 but was only able to get about 15'? Is that normal or do I have my sticks too close together? I just didn't get as high as I usually get and looking for tips.

You probably have them too close together, also make sure your first stick isn't to low when you start

Without stretching to much between the sticks, I get about 17 feet out of four of them.

Practice more and you'll find you can get 18'-20' each time easy. Space them out and use branches on trees that are not straight and you can get a good bit higher. I just hung another alpha today, wouldnt trade them for the world!

I get about 18 to 20 feet also....with 4 sticks....I love my LW alphas...they are deadly quiet and a snap to hang after you have done it a couple of times.

I had the same issue at first it just takes some pratice. I also noticed if you slight offset the next stick to the side of the foot you will use to on the bottom of the stick you can place the stick higher. left foot on top of first stick place the next stick about 2-6 inches to the left of the first stick seems to help me. I also only have three sticks but I use two crawford rope steps on the bottom of tree to get the first 4 feet.

I get 20' with 4 sticks. I set the stand between the 2nd and 3rd step of the 4th stick. That way I am stepping down onto the platform instead of stepping up.

Thanks guys for the response and tips. I was real happy with the stand on my first hunt with it. I'll practice more and get a few more feet out of it.

    Hi
This is my first post and would like to wish all a safe and successful season!

I was wondering, are most of you using the easy hang hook or the bracket that goes against the tree any pro's/con's versus one or the other..
It's a new stand for me.
    Thanks
    Byg

Byg....I'm a first time LW user as well. I've never set the stand with the easy hook so I can't help you there. I decided to leave the bracket on the stand in case I ever needed to setup in a crooked tree.

I guess with the ez hang hook you'd need an extra strap? Not sure.

Do you climb up & down installing one stick at a time. I've seen "the youtube video" with the guy that uses the stick caddy. I thought I was going to go that route but I think my way is fairly quick as well.

I install the 1st stick on the ground. I can't quite reach high enough to install the 2nd stick (Im 6'0 but want to ensure I get the most height out of my 4 stick setup) so I climb the first stick and install the 2nd. Climb down, grab the third, and climb back up to install. I then climb back down, put the stand on my back, and climb up with the 4 stick in my hand. Install it, attach my lineman's rope, swing the stand off my back, and install it.

I haven't practiced hanging the stand with all my gear (bow, pack, etc) so I'm not sure if I'd climb down and put the pack on my back and attach a rope to the bow OR just do all that when I climb down to get the 4th stick and stand.

Just curious which process youve been using since your season has already started?

I attach my pack and bow to a piece of 550 cord and my stand as well (on a piece of 13mm rope) attach BOTH to my harness and hang in all the sticks using my lineman, once I get my 4th stick in I pull up the stand, hang it, get in and then pull up my bow and buttpack (bow resting on top of the butt pack with 550 through the grip and the handle on my buttpack).

Took me about 4-5 sits last year to get my routine down.

This year I am hanging two stands, getting my son up in his stand with me and then pulling up my bow/pack.

    Donnie,
I used the stick caddy like the guy used in the youtube video, installing all the sticks without having to climb down. I had my treestand attached to a rope and once I had all the sticks installed, I pulled up the stand to attach it. After this, I climbed down and attached my bow to the rope and climbed back up and then pulled up my bow.

Looks to me the guy on youtube takes to much time, I can have my 3 sticks hung and stand in less than 15 minutes. Once my stand is hung, my 20' hoist rope in just off the ground. The trick is to set the first stick as far off the ground as possible, then spread the others out the same, then stepping up onto your stand. If I did this with 4 sticks I would be way to high to hunt from!
