Can they be planted 2 years in a row in the same field? I'm taking about 2 1/2 acres back from a guy that I rent to and he has planted beans this year. I had wanted to plant beans next spring and let them stand all winter for the deer and turkeys.
My neighbor is on his 5th year of beans. Friend of mine had beans 3 years in a row in his plot and actually just put a little bit in this 4th year. As far as a correct answer I am not sure.I dont see why not. Dont forget to try to overseed some the bean plot in August with brassicas/rye before a rain.
Yes you can plant beans again. I would avoid more than 5 years straight. Theat could cause desease to the soil. And yes you can overseed with turnips while the beans are still green. Usuaully mid august before a good chance of rain. Just walk with a hand spreader and let the rain compact it in. Works reallly well. I do all of my soybean plots like this. Gives them something green to move on to once the beans start to turn yellow. Tyler Rector BHOD prostaff
The beans in my food plot thread are on their second year. So far they are looking really good. I did nothing to the soil besides tilling it and replanting this spring. I plan on rotating to a different crop next season. http://forums.bowhunting.com/food-plots-habitat-improvement/48266-2013-food-plots-picture-heavy.html
Thanks for the replies. What kind of fertilizer do you guys use on beans? Sent from my Galaxy S3 and Tapatalk 2
You can but usually isn't usually very common. I've seen guys have 15+ years of corn but honestly never seen anyone do 2 or more years of soybeans in a field. If you're talking food plot size it wouldn't really matter but as a farming standpoint I wouldn't.
To go along with my previous post, SCN (soybean cyst nematodes) can absolutely erupt in fields with continuous soybeans. And trust me, you don't want them. Another thing is weed management. You are not giving the weeds a different mode of action or herbicide when not rotating with say corn. And like mentioned above, diseases are more prevalent when planting soybeans year after year. In a small plot situation you will probably be okay but keep these things in mind.
