So couple of quick questions about oaks,
first of all, do they grow acorns every year or every other year?

Second, what time do they drop? early/mid/late bowseason? And when is the best time to hunt oaks? I know the deer will dig up acorns in the late season, are they a reliable food source to hunt in January?

Third, a guy at my local bow shop told me that If I set up a stand in a oak, to take some fertilizer and spread it around the tree as far as the canopy extends, in order to produce sweeter acorns then the other trees. When is the proper time in the year to do this?

    thanks for answering!

Mature Oaks throw acorns every year and usually heavy crops every third year. In NC, White Oaks (all I really care about) start dropping early September and last until almost November. The best time to hunt oaks...pretty much every chance you can, you just have to be where the deer are..typically which ones have the best cover, close to bedding areas, have the most and sweetest acorns. In January, deer tend to feed on Red Oak acrons since their acidity levels have dropped. Lastly, I have never heard of spreading fertilizer to sweeten them..but that's definety something that I'm going to research
