Hello, everyone. I am new here and just getting back into archery and bow hunting. I have a question that I have not seen addressed in the forums. I have been shooting bows off and on since I was a kid. My dad was left handed and before he really thought about it he taught me how to do a number of things left handed like shooting a bow and shooting a gun although I am right handed and right eye dominant! I am not ambidextrous because the things I do left handed I cannot do right handed and the things I do right handed I cannot do left handed. Should I attempt to learn to shoot my bow right handed since I am right eye dominant or not worry about it? I just worry about my accuracy although I feel I am fairly accurate shooting the way I do with sights but I am working on shooting instinctual. Any input would be appreciated.

My girlfriend is right handed left eye dominant. What was stressed by everyone that we talked to is that if you want to be all you can be at shooting a bow then go with your dominant eye. Yes you can be accurate enough with your non dominant eye but to be your very best you need to go with your dominant eye. I have seen forum threads on this topic and many people have switched and most say it was a good decision. Most were up and shooting just as good if not better in very short period of time. Good luck.

Also in your situation you would probably be better off equipment wise to go right handed as well. While everyone make left handed stuff nowadays its still easier to walk in and find right handed equipment.

I think you should, at the very least, give it a try. Borrow a bow, shoot a buddies bow, and see how tough the switch will be. Hopefully it wont be too tough because it's the proper way to do it. This is coming from a guy who shoots right and is left eye dominant, so take it for what it's worth.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I will give it a try right handed. I have never tried because, well, it just feels so unnatural! It would be like me trying to throw a baseball left handed!! The accuracy issue is what worries me, especially for the fact that I want to eventually shoot totally instinctive. Seems like it would be even more of an accuracy issue with that type of shooting.
