I have never been elk hunting but I have a strange question for those who have. I see the hunter packing out the horns but I never see what happens with the rest of the carcass. Surely the rest is not just left in field. When hunting way out with out 4 wheelers how would you pack an animal that large out?

Lots of trips. or use an animal to pack it out. Depending on how far it is, it can easily take a couple days to pack it out.

My family will cut and quarter the animal and pack it ou on pack boardst. What you usually see in tv is probably just the hunter taking the head and the guide company is probably responsible for the rest.
