Hi folks, I have a question about a stand I have set up. I put a stand on a transition line that separates a pine grove that is thick and a known bedding area and a large open oak flat. I originally set it up to be a rut stand to catch bucks cruising for does. Would it be beneficial to hunt this early season with all the acorns on the ground, or wait until the cruising starts? I don’t overhunt stands so I don’t want to spoil the killer spot for later in the season. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks and God bless.
I would say it’s worth a sit or 2 early season if acorns are dropping now. Especially since the rut is still a month away. At least it is here in MI Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As long as the buck you want to shoot is in there, I would hunt the crap out of it! Also as long as you can get in and out without spooking the deer. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Yea I get in through a creek bed that I pruned a path through earlier in the year. There’s a rub line starting at the transition line going into the pines that are trees 8 inches wide or bigger. I’ve been hunting a couple dandy’s on this farm for a few years. Thanks for the responses. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sound like a good place to sit now, than wait Abit for the " rut". Bucks like open oak flats while looking for does.
As long as you have a good entry and exit and you play the wind, you should be good for an early season hunt.
Thanks for all the advice. I’ll probably keep my eyes open for the right wind and sneak in for a morning sit. It’s a killer spot so I’ll be light on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
