I shoot a Diamond Razor Edge at 47# pounds. I had to crank it down form 50 because I haven't had to time to shoot and now I can't hit accurately. Im using the Rage two blade 40 KE, because of my low draw wieght. My question is, what would be my farthest shot to get good penetration on the deer? I was thinking my farthest range at 25 or 30yds. Thanks for the help. Only got two weeks left

I would draw the line at 25 yards

47 is not a lot. You have to be fair to the deer.

I'd shoot a fixed head instead of a Rage, if it was me.

The Rage 40 KE's are made for bows with shorter draw lengths and light draw weights. Youll be fine shooting those. Speed doesnt kill deer, smart hunters do! Only shoot out to what you think is right. But i do agree 25 or 30 yards is all id go just to be on the safe side.

So for draw weights of 40-50# nobody really recommends shooting past 30 yards?

I see it as whatever you feel is comfortable and capable of putting a good shot on a deer. All bows are different with all kinds of different set ups to choose from these days. Two guys could be shooting the exact same draw weight and one guy having a heck of a lot more fps. So really its in the shooters hands to make the decision on the yardage.

You say you can't hit accurately.... at what distance can you hit accurately?? Cut a few yards off that and that should be your maximum hunting distance.

Also, the reason you may not be shooting accurately is because your arrows may now be too stiff for your lower poundage or your bow is just out of tune in general. Arrows not flying straight and mechanical broadheads are a really, really bad combination. Has your bow been tuned lately?

[Gets on soapbox] I shoot 40lbs and will only shoot out to 30 yards if the deer is stationary, not alert, no obstructions, no wind, all the planets and moons are lined up just so... and well, you get the idea. That's pretty much -never-. Even when I was shooting a bow at 55lbs, I never shot at a deer out at 30 yards. 28 yards was my farthest shot ever. If you're a good bowhunter with any woods skills you don't need to shoot at animals at a distance. [steps off soapbox]

    :D

Thanks for the help. I can hit accurately at 25 yds, so i will probably not shoot past that. Yes my bow has been tuned and when i bought the arrows I had BP get the ones for my draw weight and draw lenght. I'm not really strong so I stoped at 47# because i could pull it and hold it.
