    Greetings all,

This is my rookie year of bow hunting, although I have been a hunter for over 20 years. For starters I bought a PSE Brute and chose to try the 3 blade rage broadheads. I will also be trying out some fixed blades. Here is my question(s)..... I'm currently using a plastic nylon type "bag" target. I realize field tips are for target practice but do you all shoot broadheads into your target as well? My rage's came with a practice tip, but if I choose to use fixed blades, won't I be dulling them up and tearing up my target? In order to test how your broadheads fly I imagine you have to shoot them. Do you just buy a set to practice with and have a set for the hunt?

I wouldn't recommend using the bag target for broadhead practice, but you can buy a "block" target made for use with broadheads. I use G5 Montecs for fixed blades and they don't dull up too much with a broadhead target, if they do they're pretty easy to sharpen.

JCraig, thanks for the response. I'll pick up a broadhead target then. I didn't know they specifically made broadhead targets.

I just got a Rinehart Dinoblock...

nice target, replaceable insert, seems to be holding up pretty well, and I shoot rage practice heads most of the time.

well to see how they fly yes you will have to shoot them. you dont want to shoot them into your bag target it will just tear it up and it will be a pain to get them out. you may have a extra broadhead or two when you get enough to cover the arrows you are hunting with. they should be your pratice heads just one of them. you will dawl them up eventualy but you proably wont the first time you use them but the one you pratice with should never be taken into the woods. good luck. next time go with a hoyt #1 in bows... lol
