I have been hunting in SE Oklahoma for four years now. The guys I hunt with have been hunting there for eight years now so I have been using preexisting bow locations. On the final weekend of rifle season last year SE Oklahoma had a very large snow storm roll through and I took the opportunity to walk 600 acres that have not been used as long as I have been there. I ended up finding a very large convergence of tracks and decided in late June to put a trail cam up. Here are a few pics of two deer that I have on this trail cam. These deer are better quality than anything I have seen on the land since I have been there. Tell me what you guys think.
Looks to me like you should have a stand nearby! The fact that no one else has hunted that area could be really good for you.
Thanks guys! I actually had lunch with one of the guys today and he happen to ask if I had anything showing up on my camera. CoveyMaster. They main reason for the lack of use is because it is a heavily wooded area and there are only two of us that even bow hunt. The others rifle hunt only so they never really gave this area a good look.
That's just stupid if true....I mean first thing I look for in a property is heaviest/thickest cover areas.....different strokes I guess
Sota. No I did not tell him about the bucks. I want to try and get one of those bucks down and do the " I told you so " thing. I have another question for you guys. Would you but a manual feeder out there or would you just leave it alone? There is nothing there.
I'd leave it alone, and have as little impact in that area as possible. Find yourself a good area to set up a stand, get it set and stay out of there until the time is right to hunt it. Make sure the wind is in your favor and go hunt it. If the area is basically unused by people, if you go in and start impacting the area, the deer will change their patterns and habits.
