I've already got a decent full size backpack, but part of what I want to focus on this upcoming season are a few areas where I will really be putting in some footwork at Dan's camp. Several of these areas will be over a mile from camp, and I'll have to cover quite a bit of up/downhill type of terrain to get in. I'll be packing the climber and bow with me, and the pack I have now is a PITA when I have a climber with me. I need something a bit smaller and I'm guessing that a quality fanny pack with shoulder straps is my best bet.

I'm looking for something along the lines of a Badlands Monster fanny pack, or maybe the Deluxe Fanny Pack available from Predator's website.

What do you have or use for those long hikes into the woods with a climber?

I just bought the Monster Fanny, this summer. Obviously I've yet to use it, besides some nominal hikes to hang stands, nothing huge. but I'm already in love. Just enough space for everything I need. Comfortable, and well built.

    here is what sold me:

"We don't care what happened, or whose fault it was, we will fix it for free forever. We could care less if you bought it at a garage sale or a gear swap, as long as it says Badlands on the pack it's covered. All we ask is that you use and abuse your pack as much as possible so we can learn how to make better products"

    Jeff:

With a climber on my back, and a fanny pack strapped on as well, I don't know where I'd strap/sling a bow to without fear of it clanging into the metal stand at the perfectly wrong time. I can picture it now and I'm sure it would sound like a gong. :d

I'm thinking I'll carry the bow. I've done it before many times, and it's a PITA but I'm not sure theres another better way without risk of making excessive noise. I'm in the process of setting up a bow specific for this though that is super light in mass weight, that is the plan for my 08' Allegiance with all super light accessories. It will be light enough that I'll just plan to carry it.

Thanks for the feedback Kyle, I've certainly got my eye on that one. If only they offered it in Predator......

Matt, for a limited time, they are offering the Monster Fanny in Hardwoods Snow pattern. It would be a little more open and might match your Predator better than regular Realtree AP.

I used this pack last year and had good luck with it. I'll most likley be using it again. It's not too loud, seems to have plenty of room, and suited my needs without spending $200+. No, its not available in Predator but you can get it in the Cabela's Outfitter or Open Country patterns which aren't half bad. Mine is Realtree AP. On sale now for only $70!

    RJ,

Here is another option. Don't know if you have already purchased something yet or not. I believe Buckeye uses this brand pack, so if he sees this, he can comment on them.

Anyone with experience or who have handled the pack available from Predator? They look like good quality, but I'd like to hear it from someone who has actually used or seen it.

Right now I'm stuck between the Badlands Monster and this pack.

i like the shoulder straps, kinda reminds me of my old web gear... money permitting i'd be all over that one Rick James... for now i'm gonna stick with my BPS Realtree AP H2O Magnum... hard to argue with it for $25

This is the pack I used last year.

    timberhawk gear

There is ton's of room in it and it is made very well. I have had no problems with it.

I actually bought the Cabela's brand bowhunters vest this year. Wanted to try something different, I have some custom work to do to it though. I want to have someone sew some different camo onto it in the larger areas. Probably Predator camo.

Matty I have the Monster AND the Nano........They are BOTH awesome packs. If you aren't taking a ton of gear with you the Nano is actually pretty nice and holds a couple water bottles too. The rigid inner face of the pack keeps it from sagging.

The Monster is going to be my main pack especially in Illinois because I'll be toting video and still camera gear plus all the essential goodies for a days hunt. That upper frame wire (like a tent pole) keeps the whole main pouch from sagging completely and is just the right size for some basic camera gear and everything else plus it has the cinch straps ect to lash external layers for the hike.
It's really a well made pack I don't think you could go wrong with it.

Thanks guys. I tried to order the pack from Predator just to try something different, but they are on backorder and no idea on ETA. Instead, I called up Cabelas and ordered the Monster pack from badlands in realtree AP.

I'll share my thoughts on this thing when it gets here.

If there's one problem with the "small guys", it always seems to be availability of products. Good luck with your new pack, I hope you enjoy it!

Sorry I'm late to the party, Matt... hell, if you ever want feedback on anything Predator, you ought to know by now you can just drop me a line. I've got the pack in your picture a couple posts above, sans the shoulder straps. I took it out west elk hunting last year, and loved it.

I think I told you in a PM earlier that I had Jeff at Gray Wolf custom-build me a fanny pack in Wolfsking FG, and it's perfect for my whitetail hunting; I had it made to hold the volume of approximately three of your fists doubled up... But the one from Predator up above has TONS of pockets inside... I JUST got through packing it to leave out Wednesday morning, and there's seperate pockets for chapstick, elk diaphram calls, rangefinder, quiver caddy, hoist rope... I mean, you name it, and it's got its own pocket. I think there's like 15 or so inside it, all lined with fleece? It's a sweet pack.

My only complaint was that it wasn't available in Fall Gray... but Deception will work.

Oh, one of the best things about it -- and it may be on the model you ended up ordering as well -- is the buckle straps at the bottom of the pack which allow you to roll up your camp shirt or a jacket and secure it to the bottom of your pack on the walk in... LOVE that feature.

Yep, the Monster Fanny by Badlands has the same buckle straps you are referring to Greg.

But, unlike the Predator pack Matt, the Badlands does not have many internal pockets in the main compartment like Greg described. I think overall you will like the pack but everytime I look at it in person I keep on talking myself into getting one of their daypack models.
